Such a lovely, classic, soft-sounding name? Why has this not had a revival?

KERALA1 · 03/06/2015 21:34

Love it. Very rare in England amongst all the eves Lily's and Millie mollys

As an Irish person I have to agree with some of the comments above - Mary doesn't sound fresh or lovely to me. It's incredibly common amongst a particular age group in Ireland, probably 50+ now. To me it screams plain and unimaginative, not a name I'd ever consider is due a revival.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 03/06/2015 20:58

I love it! It was on my list for dd.

QueenBean · 03/06/2015 20:56

I would think of hairy Mary

And it sounds like an Irish mammies name

Bjn765 · 03/06/2015 20:50

I also like this name and had it on my list but my husband feels it is too religious for him.

CrystalMcPistol · 03/06/2015 20:48

I agree with hufty. If you're from a Catholic background it seems quite a religious name to give your child. If you're an Irish woman over the age of 50 there's a good chance your name is Mary, if you're an Irish woman between the ages of 30 and 50 there's a good chance you're middle name is Mary.

I can imagine in England it seems fresher.

MamaLazarou · 03/06/2015 20:43

I love Mary. It would be first on my list but there is a famous Mary with our surname.

HuftysTrain · 03/06/2015 20:09

Very sweet name.

I suppose, for any Catholics amongst us, it's a name we grew up with - there are tonnes of Marys in my parents' social circle and families. It'll come back, but might be another generation away.

Beautiful name

Sophronia · 03/06/2015 20:01

I think people see it as being quite plain. Plus it rhymes with 'hairy'

VixxFace · 03/06/2015 19:57

Awful

paxtecum · 03/06/2015 19:44

Mary is a beautiful name.

JacobWrestling · 03/06/2015 19:40

I like it very much.

heylilbunny · 03/06/2015 19:39

I know some young Marys and also young girls (under 10) with forms of Mary such as Miriam and Maria. So I think it is being used but has not hit the big numbers yet.
