I just hear Frank Costanza shouting 'Serenity Now!' I'm afraid...

ShadowFire · 27/05/2015 06:36

I love it. I love most virtue names.

But I also prefer names that aren't too unusual, so I probably wouldn't use it on those grounds.

I wouldn't worry too much about Firefly though. I've seen Firefly, I get that reference, but I really don't think Firefly is popular enough for that to be a problem. If you were proposing the name Enterprise, on the other hand... that's one fictional starship you'd never hear the end of....

nooka · 27/05/2015 06:26

and no I would not call my dd Serenity

nooka · 27/05/2015 06:25

Serenity Now!

NinjaLeprechaun · 27/05/2015 06:22

Which is another consideration - if you use Serenity people will probably assume that you're a fan of Firefly.
Which might confuse, if you're not. Although you should be.

goshhhhhh · 27/05/2015 06:22

Too much to live up to. For instance every Joy I've met has been distinctly joyless - sorry any Joys on here.

NinjaLeprechaun · 27/05/2015 06:17

My daughter has a friend named Serene. She's not.

I might use Serenity and shorten it to Sera. To keep the Firefly theme.

KoalaDownUnder · 26/05/2015 12:34

I don't like it. But I also don't like Felicity, Verity, etc.

Serena, I LOVE. Or Sabine.

reuset · 25/05/2015 23:18

I suppose it's generally accepted as a name now, but I can't warm to it. Its mainstream use is relatively modern I'm guessing for some reason.

I do like plain Seren more. Or the vaguely, only vaguely, similar Seraphina.

BellMcEnd · 25/05/2015 23:12

Love it. My friend's daughter is called Serenity. She's utterly adorable but she's not serene in any way shape or form!

Pixa · 25/05/2015 23:08

I love the name Serenity. I know of an adult with the name Serenity. Smile

ZestyDragon · 25/05/2015 23:07

Nope, reminds me of Firefly which I love but its the name of their ship which is in turn the name of the place where they lost the war/battle.

I like it as a word, but not as a name.

dreamingaboutcheese · 25/05/2015 22:59

I like it. great movie.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 25/05/2015 22:57

I like it as far as liking a name goes and I don't think it would bring a child any issues. Kids are accepting to all names now aren't they,
I wouldn't have it though as we've already got Nia chosen.
So if you like it go for it. Before someone else has a baby and names her Serenity, that happened to friend she was umming and Arring about a specific name. She wasn't brave enough to use it, anyway her cousin had a baby. Year later and used the name she was going to use. My friend was gutted but couldn't say anything.

Allthatnonsense · 25/05/2015 22:29

It's okay.

TheCowThatLaughs · 25/05/2015 22:26

Don't like serenity but I do like serena

Jemimapuddlemuck · 25/05/2015 22:24

It's pretty but I can just imagine it sounding horribly ironic mid-tantrum!

ChampagneShowers · 25/05/2015 22:18

What about Serendipity?

Sophronia · 25/05/2015 22:16

Don't like it, it sounds a bit tacky to be honest. Serena or Seren are much better.

Lolimax · 25/05/2015 19:22

Seren is Welsh for star and a very popular name here.

SoupDragon · 25/05/2015 19:18

Seren and Serena are far better. Serenity is asking for trouble, which is how I feel about all virtue names TBH.

ilovemargaretatwood8931 · 25/05/2015 19:16

Another vote for Serena. I love that name, but I tend to feel Serenity is a descriptive word, not a name. (I know Grace is too, but it sounds like a name to me iyswim.)

FoamyOne · 25/05/2015 19:12

I can just imagine shouting "Please stop it, Serenity" when she's rolling around the floor of Sainsburys, mid-tantrum...

Serena is lovely Smile.
