What does Kitty say to you?

I think elegant, 1920s period drama, strong but feminine.

DH says Bunny a la Katie Price.

I am desperate to use it, but I've got some persuading to do. And he's made me wonder if I've got it completely wrong... Have I? What does it make you think?

Kitty to a childs peers will always be associated with Hello Kitty.

What, someone could be named Kitty at birth and then change to Catherine or Kate if they wanted to? Doesn't that involve deed poll or at least an announcement in the paper?

If I were giving a shortened name as a full name, I'd far far rather Kit instead of Kitty.

The Lady Kitty Eleanor Spencer has Kitty as a given name and I think Giles Coren's daughter is a Kitty also.

After I miaowed childishly, I think it's fine as a nickname but I wouldn't use it as a given name.

I'm old enough to remember when people chose a name for itself, rather than for what cute name it could be shortened to, so anything that sounds like a nickname would get a no from me.

But I have a DD who never shortens her three-syllable name, so what do I know? Smile

I like Kitty not keen on Kathleen or Katherine though.

I also had a great Aunt Kitty. She was indeed very glamorous in the 1920s.

She was also very beautiful as an older woman. She was very direct but very funny.

She often shortened it to Kit.

The assistant manager at my wee ones nursery is called Kitty,
It's the first time I've ever met anyone called Kitty & I think it's a really cute name I like it !!

I think it is too frilly and twee as a sole given name. But I dislike that style of name generally.

The Cliff Richard reference is very obscure - I don't think of that at all.

For many hundreds of years Katherines have been known as Kitty.

It's a family name for us with several older relatives (traced back via family tree) called Kitty as their given name. I like it.

My youngest is Kathleen, after my grandma, but we often call her Kitty at home. It suits her and it's cute.

I say use it, but definitely as a nickname for a longer name, not as a stand-alone name

The high court judge test is a load of bollocks.

If she grows up on the UK, then her parents' wealth, the school she attends, her connections and even her accent will all impact how likely she is to become a barrister/judge. Not fair, but true.

Her name not so much - it's a complete red herring and makes me rather Angry.

Sorry to derail the thread.

I like Kitty, it makes me think of my honorary "auntie" Kitty who was my grandma's German pen pal. Prefer as nn for Kathryn/Katharine though.
