Barnaby, Otis or Hugh?

Surname is REALLY common, what name do you prefer and can I get away with these shortened versions.

Barnaby (Ned) can I really stretch it that far.

Otis Love Oz as a nn (can't have Oscar)

Hugh nn Huey

Thoughts please x

Barnaby's great but would always be Barney. Have you tried the Boots test? For those who don't know:

Imagine you're in Boots the Chemist & he's gone awol. Now shout his name out loud to call him back. Worked every time for my 3 DCs!

Love Ned, but don't get it from Barnaby - Edwin, Edward, Eddard, Benedict, Edmund?
Not sure about Otis
Barnaby is ok - I know one and he is lovely ( a grown up), but I'm not mad about the name.

It would have to be Otis for me. Its a cool name. No idea who the fox hunting guy is.. Otis = Otis Redding to me.

Hugh is okay, I don't like Barnaby.

Don't like Otis as for me it means Otis Ferry, fox hunting fan.

Barnaby and Hugh are both nice, I like Hugo too.

I like Otis but possibly a bit out there. Really like the Huw spelling rather than Hugh. Hugo is nice too.

Thanks everyone, looks like no clear runner though... We already have a Jasper which I LOVE, just can't seem to find that same feeling with any boys names...lets hope it's a girl. Will know in 6 weeks ;)

Otis is a great name and if your surname is what I'm thinking then it goes great with it.
