Brynn for a girl?

What do people thin of Brynn? Will either be Brynn Elizbath or Brynn Alana.

I have heard it a few times on American tv shows or in films, so I definitely think it's more common there! But I really really like it and would be interested in some input :)

oh dear seems like it's a big no!
Definitely seems it would go down better in the States. I also like Ryan for a girl but again .. very "USA"

It looks like a misspelling of Bryn - a Welsh boys' name

If I saw it, I would think that (a) they've give the baby a boys' name and (b) they've misspelled it. Both of these thoughts would be accompanied by Bryn Terfall singing Bread of Heaven in my head

I think the American fashion of giving girls boys names which are usually of celtic derivation is just awful. Sorry.

And even worse than that, once a name that was a boy's name becomes associated with girls, people don't use it for boys any more- it becomes devalued.

It means "hill" in Welsh by the way.

Girls called James = fine, boys called Isabelle = less fine it seems.

I have taught a girl called Bryn. It suited her perfectly. I am in N America though, so no associations with beefy Welsh singers...

It's a boys name to me, and yep reminds me of Bryn from Gavin and Stacey.

Are you sure you haven't misheard it?

Brianne or Brianna are female names. Bryn is a male name. It means hill in Welsh.

No I wouldn't use it. Americans also take Irish male names and give them to females and it sounds really odd to Irish ears. There was a female actress on telly the other night called Sean. I've also heard of a female Rory and a female Aidan. Sad

It's a boy's name. A big beefy bass baritone boy's name. Not really the image I'd look for a girl but it takes all sorts Hmm
