Brynn for a girl?

What do people thin of Brynn? Will either be Brynn Elizbath or Brynn Alana.

I have heard it a few times on American tv shows or in films, so I definitely think it's more common there! But I really really like it and would be interested in some input :)

Brynne works for a girl! Brynn does look quite Bryan esque but Brynne sounds good to me.

OP- seems like you are drawn to Welsh boys' names for your DD! (Bryn and Ryan) so can I suggest Morgan as an alternative? Morgan is at least unisex so you wouldn't get so many raised eyebrows.

Mind you, one of David Cameron's DCs is called Elwen and every time I see that I think he must have meant Elwyn because Elwen is normally used for a girl.....

It depends how far away from Wales you live I guess. I think it sounds quite nice as a girls name.

She will have her whole life being told that it means hill in welsh though.

Non-dominant too.
If it's not part of your culture there are less constraints and it sounds good to you regardless.
Brynn does have a "female" sound to it, actually, although obviously not for anyone Welsh.

I find it interesting how people from dominant cultures so merrily appropriate names from other cultures and do what they like with them.

Indeed - strong, immovable are admirable qualities in a woman. So why not call her by the female Celtic name - Brianne, Brianna - which means 'noble', 'strong' and 'full of virtue/wisdom' ?

You would call your little girl "hill" and after a thousand houses and place names in Wales???? Hill for a boy is great, strong and immovable but totally wrong for a girl.

If they're going to he the piss taken out of then for being called Derek/Laura then of course you wouldn't. Depending on where you lived you might get away with Bryn, obviously it works in America!

There are Welsh names that can be used for boys and girls but Bryn isn't one of them.

Meredith is a Welsh boy's name that became a girls name in the US... Most non-welsh people have no idea because that's not well known outside of Wales (though I reckon Bryn is more well known as a Welsh male name) either way hill is a very unisex meaning so I don't see why it couldn't be used for a girl. (sorry Welsh people!)

Calling a girl Bryn(n)is to me akin to calling a girl David (or Davide to feminise it slightly), I don't care how popular it is in America.

I assume the popularity of Bryn as a girls name took off due to Bryn Mawr, a famous all girl college there.

Are there any other names you like?

Oh nooooo.

It's a Welsh boy's name spelled wrongly, as everyone has said, and very very American - which is fine if you're American in America I think, but here - it just sounds naff.

How about Bryony? Now that's lovely.
