Magnus is my first choice, both for any DS's quarter-Norwegian heritage and in tribute to the great Mr Magnusson .

I love Magnus, especially if there's ancestry to justify it. And I agree with PP, Torcuil is somehow better than Torquil despite being pronounced the same way. Less effete.

Torcuil/Torquil is a brilliant name! I've never known one personally but there are a couple of well-known ones in Scottish journalism. Originally Norn, but was also prevalent in Gaelic as Torcall before entering Scots usage. Lovely name, should be used more.

We have a Torquil. He's lovely, very handsome, super strong, and has the most amazing red hair. However he can be a bit grumpy at times and snorts a lot.......I should probably point out at this moment that Torquil is a bull

I like Torquil too. It's one of those names that when you think about it is gorgeous, but has slightly 'make fun of' associations. Sort of like Tarquin. You gotta be a bit brave.

DH's Dad is not called Hulk. But he is called Gunnar, which means "warrior". They are all lovely mild-mannered people!

I know a Torquil and he is lovely. It wouldn't be my first choice of name, but it is memorable, and, because the Torquil that I know is really nice, I like it.

Eh? Did you forget to explain in your post that your RL name or nickname is Tor?

My DH is half Norwegian and has an Uncle called "Tore" (pronounced "toe-reh"). It means "Thor" and is exactly the same word that Norwegians use when talking about the Norse God. How cool it would be to have a child named Thor. With a brother called Hulk.

Yup, posh Scottish. We know one. Nice - if a little unhinged. Him, not the name. No, actually we know (knew) two - but the other was known as Will.

Think Scotland's answer to something like Peregrine or St. John and you're half way there.

I quite like it and know one. I am in Scotland. It is very posh Scottish though (there is a Billy Connolly routine about Torquil and Farquhar with over exaggerated posh voices...)
