Hypothetical naming here ... which middle name do you like best?

Naomi Joy
Naomi Vivienne
Naomi Violet

My dd is a Naomi, I love the name, but I never cease to be amazed by the ways people manage to misspell it or mispronounce it ( or both!). Despite that, it's a great name, lovely meaning, and just unusual enough to be different without being too odd. Most people get the right pronunciation if you 'model' the way you want it said often enough!

The 'I moan' thing didn't come up for us until high school age, and never resulted in teasing, just one or two comments which she fortunately laughed off. No name is free from odd rhymes, sounds etc, if someone is determined to find them!

My dd is Naomi Rose. Of your choices, I'd go with Naomi Joy.

"Nayer-Me" is approximately how I say it. Or Nay-uh-me, same thing. I don't spend long on the 'o' sound.

Sorry I meany we also get "Knee-oh-me". MIL says it really weird - "Nayer-Me" Shock .

I have a 12 year old Naomi. She doesn't have a middle name but calls herself Naomi-Jane.

Therefore I think Naomi Joy is best Smile .

I always hope Naomi doesn't become a hugely popular name. It's a name that everyone has heard of and is timeless, but my one has always been the only Naomi in her schools.

Regarding pronounciation, apparently the correct way is "Nay-oh-me" but apparently "Nigh-oh-me" rolls off the tongue more easily hence that pronounciation. We also get "Nigh-oh-me" and many shortenings - Nomi, Nomes, Nammy, Nims, Naynay, Omi. I don't mind how people say it and neither does my daughter - if we did we would be correcting it all the time.

The Imoan thing has been something my daughter points out to people herself - it's never been an issue.

I love joy in going to use it I think it's a nice change from the usual. I also love hope as a middle name but I cannot use it as our last name begins with P & it's too difficult to say lol

Naomis I know are pronounced Nay-OH-mee, NAY-uh-mee, and Naiiiiir-mee.

I like it best the first way :)

Love the name though, nicely unusual nowadays, I'd pick Naomi Joy too :)

Naomi Joy basically means 'Happiness Happiness'! Almost unanimously the favourite though - interesting. I love it the best too, but it is DH's sister's middle name. His dad gave the best ever wedding speech about her, ending with her rather dramatic birth story (he delivered her), and how they gave her the middle name Joy and that's exactly what she has brought them every day since . He is quite a reserved man so it was so beautiful and I've wanted to use it ever since. DH thinks it's weird to use his sister's middle name though, especially as he has other sisters.

I think Joy you. What is the correct pronunciation of Naomi? I'm never sure. Is the o in the middle like oh, or o as on orange?

I love this name and almost called my DD this.

It was my MIL that ruined it for me.

I wanted it said NAH-OH-ME but MIL kept saying NI-OM-EE.

After 3 months of trying to correct her the stubborn cowbag refused to be corrected (she has form for being a bit of an awkward cow just to get a reaction) I ditched this lovely name because I could not face the rest of MILS life hearing her refer to my daughter by the wrong name. Chose something totally different.

Naomi Joy is my favourite from your list.

That's really funny, one of my bffs, who I really do love, can be a massive moaner at times...I never noticed the "I Moan" thing!

Great name though, like it best with a short middle name, so I think Joy works.

Naomi is a nice name, I really wouldn't worry about the "I moan" possibility!

I think I'm the only person on mumsnet who thinks middle names are almost entirely irrelevant so unless you're using a family name or one with a special connection then they all sound fine to me (and as I said I strongly believe it's pretty irrelevant in any case).

Funny you should say that VT82 because, although not a popular name, I know loads in the area I live in. I know 3 adults and 3 under fives.
