Opinions please. I like it a lot. Dh is swaying towards it. (5 months left and don't know gender. Probably Alexander if a boy).

Lovely.

OneStepOneStumble · 17/05/2015 14:03

I know a 24 year old Gemma who is just lovely! Doesn't sound 80's or faddy to me - very pretty name!

IsadoraQuagmire · 17/05/2015 11:39

I like it because of St Gemma Galgani, who is a modern saint and also very beautiful.
I've only ever met one person called Gemma (though her's is spelled Jemma) She's about 20 I think.

Pandora37 · 17/05/2015 10:23

I love it, I know a 9 year old one and it really suits her.

Lj8893 · 17/05/2015 09:18

Like it. All the Gemma/Jemma's I know are lovely people.

timelyreminder · 17/05/2015 09:14

I like Gemma. It's pretty and not overused at the moment.

I don't like Jemima or Jemma.

Allthatnonsense · 17/05/2015 08:27

Gemma is dated, but Jemima is lovely and won't date.

MadameJosephine · 17/05/2015 08:07

I like it, lovely name that is definitely due a comeback

DaisyChain87 · 17/05/2015 08:05

My 3 year old God daughter is a Gemma. I think it's a lovely name Smile not faddy and there won't be 5 of them in the playground with her!

TwiceAsNiceAsIceAndaSlice · 17/05/2015 07:59

I love it.

SoftSheen · 17/05/2015 07:57

I like Gemma. Maybe time to start a revival?

afink · 17/05/2015 07:48

Really dislike it. It's very 80s. Then again, so is Claire, but Claire is a beautiful name and Gemma just sounds harsh and nothingy. I've never met a nice Gemma. It's slightly better spelled with a J as the G makes it look ugly, but the sound is still the same and I don't like it.

SallyMcgally · 17/05/2015 01:06

Lovely. And she can read all the wonderful Gemma books by Noel Streatfeild. I loved them!

Yika · 17/05/2015 01:00

Love it. Very pretty, simple, somewhat unusual.

swimmerforlife · 17/05/2015 00:52

It's really nice and pretty. So what if it's a bit 80s Grin

DoTheDuckFace · 17/05/2015 00:45

I know a Gemma born in the 90s I think it's Lovely.

FunkyZebraHat · 17/05/2015 00:39

I love it but it's too similar to my own name

MissWimpyDimple · 16/05/2015 21:42

I know a 19 yr old and a 39 yr old. I don't really like it on either but both have "grown" into it as such!

Itsallaboutme3 · 16/05/2015 21:40

I love it!

Annunziata · 16/05/2015 21:29

St Gemma Galgani is one of the patron saints of students.

It's very unusual now, but it has a lovely sound.

Sophronia · 16/05/2015 21:06

I like it and agree it makes a nice change from all the currently popular names.

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/05/2015 20:22

It's an Amanda kind of name. Considered quite a trendy/classy names in America apparently.

goplayout · 16/05/2015 20:21

Jemma so much nicer!

LastNightADJSavedMyLife · 16/05/2015 20:17

Emma lovely
Jemima lovely

Gemma imo dated

I have a cousin Jenna though - that's pretty

switchitoff · 16/05/2015 20:07

I like it. It sounds quite strong and feisty to me and makes a change from all the Ellie/Millie/Lily crowd.

I suppose because it's not commonly heard these days, people might not know how to spell it and it might be written Jemma quite a lot. Don't know if that would bother you.

If you wanted a longer/fancier name, you could go for Jemima and use Jemma/Gemma for short.
