We have decided on either Thea or Evelyn for our girl, just not sure which one to fully go for now, any opinions. We also can't decide on a middle name.

Thea Rachael Thomson
Thea Mary Thomson
Evelyn Rachael Thomson
Evelyn Mary Thomson

Sorry ignore my post got my Evelyn and Eleanor's in a mix ??

peachypips · 06/05/2015 13:23

Neve is beautiful!

stormyboots · 06/05/2015 09:04

Eleanor is a beautiful name, but i really dislike the name Evie and as many others have said it is really really popular.
How about Ellen as a nn?

Thea doesn't compare to the name Eleanor,it seems more like a nn to me.

Have you considered using Rachael or Mary as a first name, those names are more similar to Eleanor and a lot nicer than Thea imo

KERALA1 · 06/05/2015 08:09

What on earth is it about Eve/Evie/Eva that makes it so wildly popular? Perfectly nice name but no better than most others - nothing that justifies its out of all proportion over use.

Oh and down the line (6 years on) most of the Eve mothers I know have name regret - they had no idea it was so popular.

thisismadness77 · 05/05/2015 21:50

We liked Evie, but went with Neve. We do call her Nevey sometimes. Grin

deepdarkwood · 05/05/2015 21:29

Biased as dd is a Thea, but she loves her name - we only know one other, and she is 9 now - so tbf I don't know that many babies. I liked its flexibility - simultaneously feminine and strong. It does get pronounced 'Fear' when they are little, but dd is quite fearsome, so that didn't bother us.

I slightly regret not going the Theadora/Anthea route, but Dh put his foot down on those.

Eve/Evie is lovely, but certainly very, very popular around here.

Agree Rachel rolls better as a middle name

peachypips · 05/05/2015 21:21

In DS2's class there is an Evie, an Eve, an Eva, an Evelyn and an Ava. So unless you don't mind it being common go for Thea!

Kizzie82 · 05/05/2015 20:35

We named our little girl Evie Catherine! Evie is not very common around where I live!! Although Thea is also a beautiful name!

Madbengalmum · 05/05/2015 18:27

Thea, love it

KERALA1 · 05/05/2015 18:04

Eves are still arriving thick and fast. I helped out at a baby group for my friend recently dear god there were 3! And all the mothers announced the name in a very pleased, you won't have heard this one before, type way. I had to muster all my polite lying social skills, "oh how lovely" when really I wanted to scream noooooo not even more Eves! At this rate by 2025 most women will be named Eve.

LemonYellowSun · 05/05/2015 16:56

Thea.

CPtart · 05/05/2015 16:55

Anything but Evie. Anything in fact that does not end in IE.

QuietNinjaTardis · 05/05/2015 16:40

Thea is lovely, lovely, lovely.

MamaLazarou · 05/05/2015 16:37

PLEASE no more Evies. We have reached Peak Evie.

Theodora is beautiful.

KERALA1 · 05/05/2015 14:50

South west here - Eve/Evie/Eva central!

fionadal · 05/05/2015 14:21

I don't know many Evies - only two under 5. I actually know more Theas (live in south-east!)! (But still only three!)

I prefer Thea of the two, with maybe a longer name like Dorothea or Althea as suggested above, so that, if Thea does suddenly become the next trending name, you have alternatives (if popularity of a name bothers you).

KERALA1 · 05/05/2015 09:43

Please don't do it. This is what I hear "Eve was my friend today mummy but then I felt sorry for the other Eve so I played with her but then Evie was climbing a tree and nearly fell off onto Eva. Can Eve come to tea" Nooo Eve confusion is the bane of my life atm.

MrsMarigold · 05/05/2015 08:40

Evelyn is a super name

KERALA1 · 04/05/2015 22:19

Eve / evelyn is full. One third of girls in dds class called eve. Crazily popular this generations sarah

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 03/05/2015 18:21

Everyone on here is always going on about how popular Evie is. I have an Evelyn who is 3 and we are yet to come across another Evelyn and have only come across one other Evie. (We live in London) Names are popular for a reason. Evie/Evelyn is beautiful, we get lots of positive comments about it.
I think Evelyn Mary is gorgeous!

Marcipex · 03/05/2015 14:35

I'd say avoid Eve/Evie, every other child is called this now. (The rest are boys)

benchmark · 03/05/2015 13:46

I don't know many babies but I know 4 Evies under 3. One is short for Evelyn and the rest are just Evie - I would avoid. Thea is lovely.

timelyreminder · 03/05/2015 12:12

Evelyn Rachael

Biscuitsneeded · 03/05/2015 11:38

Thea. Elegant, not as popular as Evie. I like Thea Mary but Thea Rachael is nice too.
