Lovely English second name for first name Aarya (British -Indian kid )

hello all!

We've got Aarya for a first name deriving from my native scriptural language in India - Sanskrit. Aarya in Sanskrit means noble. So that's the Indian bit of her heritage.

DH is White British (we can't wait to see how DC looks!) and for the moment are looking for an English girls name as a suitable second name to go with Aarya.

Till now we have - (with double barrelled last name)

Aarya Iris
Aarya Sophie
Aarya Thea

But none of them have wowed us. Also because we have an Indian first name to reflect my heritage and culture and language (hence Aarya) we would like an English second name to reflect her Dad.

Any ideas?

I came on to say Elizabeth too - so another vote here. Agree with your DH, Rose is so over-done as a middle name, it will date a really beautiful first name too quickly!!

Aarya is very much a girls name in my language :) in my language lots of boys and girls names are spelt in similar ways (anglicised spellings of Bengali boys names often turn out to look like girls names) - but Aarja/Aarya (note not Aarjo) would be very very much a Bengali girls name. Absolutely. Wouldn't have selected it otherwise :)

I think it needs to start with a consonant so the names don't run into each other.

Single syllable might work well

confused.
All the Aarya/Aryas we know are boys!
As a girls' name it sounds right to a Western ear but won't your Eastern family find it odd?

With a western ear: Aarya Jane or Jean or Joy sound nice.

We had the same issue - wanted to reflect both cultures in name. If we'd had a daughter her middle name would've been Violet.

As a mummy to a British-Indian baby as well (same as you, dad white and i'm Bengali!)- its so hard picking names!

I think the pp who said single syllable names was perhaps on the right track. But i personally love long names and since her first name is quite short you could get away with something longer. i also think a name starting with a harder sounding letter would sound nice.

Very beautiful name OP with an equally lovely meaning. I like Rose and Beth and would probably go with something short.

Aaaaaah! Grin Then I think something short would be best, so that you would linger over the first name. Dawn or Joy sound nice to me. (But perhaps not Joy if you are going to sound the y as a j?)

Thanks all! The authentic Sanskrit way to pronounce it would be Aaar - yah (with a very long drawn Aa and a prominent R) not the GoT style "Ah-ya"

But as I said, like Latin, Sanskrit is a scriptural unspoken language now. Languages have since derived from it. So, my mother tongue Bengali would pronounce it as "Aarja" with a J. Which is fine.

I love all these names!! Very much!
