I used to work with a lady called Josette in Paris. This was the 2000s and she was close to retirement. I wonder if it's a name that might be considered old French lady chic?

I like it because of the Chalet School connection. But I can see how, if you don't have that association, it could sound a bit Jolene-ish.

I'm getting american trailer park, perhaps in an old French area in America. Like Louisiana. Josette has a sister called britney. Her neighbour is jolene.

Hmm, I would say it would something like Joe-zette. The initial 'j' being pronounced similar to the 'j' in darjeeling.

What would a British pronunciation be I wonder

I know of a little girl called Josette, and I don't like it at all. It sounds clumsy and awkward when spoken IMO.

I'm afraid it's not a name I've heard used in France (not saying Edith is incorrect, just haven't come across it personally yet).

It just doesn't feel like a 'proper' established name. I too prefer Josephine

It's not made up, it's a standard French diminutive of Josephine, and has been used as a main name for ages.

There were enough around to be unexceptional and who would be in their late 40s by now (and I was at Guides with one).
