Sapphire - chavvy or posh?

Debating the name Sapphire with a friend, she puts it firmly in the 'Chardonnay' camp and I consider it posh, more akin to Cordelia or Jacinta. What do you think?

Interestingly it sounds quite similar to the traditional English pronunciation of Sophia. (So-FYE-a)

Is it not akin to Emerald, and therefore potentially posh?
It's weird because the poshest (old money-type posh) couple I know have a daughter called Sapphire. They are so posh they won't care what anyone thinks of their name choices though Wink.

You have to have it double-barrelled such as Sapphire May or Sapphire Rose to really crown it off.

I don't think it's popular enough to be categorised or put into a 'type'.

I just think of it as an unusual name.

Quite pretty too.

Sounds like a name that a pregnant 15 year would inflict on their daughter, almost certainly misspelt. Or it sounds like the stage name for a stripper.

I've seen it spelt Saffyre Confused IMO a 'chavvy' type name.
