Nina: Urgent opinions needed

What do people think of Nina? Is it popular at the moment? I love it but I'm a hormonal wreck so don't trust my own judgement right now. I regretted out last name choice after the hormones cleared. Help me hive mind!

I love it. My niece is a Nina, she is 8. She is beautiful and bright and into ballet and karate and lego. It works cross culturally which is also important.

I wasn't sure at first as it sounded very 80s to me as I have a bit of an obsession with Nena and . Now it is just perfect for the gorgeous little girl that is my niece. Slightly gutted as we have had to strike Nia off our list.

I'm a bit biased as I have a lovely friend called Nina. She's Swedish and I think it is quite a popular name there?

If you would post your older DCs name, I bet you'd get some good opinions on the 'feel' of that, and possibly whether you might be likely to regret Nina later? Or, what did you later wish you'd called your older DC?

Great name. Not at all like Gina and Tina which to me sound a bit 80s.

Nina is... intelligent, snappy, attractive, has a European air.

If you're not sure, the Welsh name Nia is also beautiful, and very familiar and easy to say outside of Wales.

I like it for the reasons that you stated in your last post but, totally irrationally, I'm sure, it reminds me of the noise of sirens.

Just ignore me as it obviously doesn't make other people think of them!

Nina was a proper badass on the Tekken video games, if I remember correctly. It always brings to mind a very strong woman (probably because she would roundhouse kick a leopard in stilettos)

Slothlorian, that reminds me actually that when we were deciding a shortlist of names for our DD, we asked our son, who was 3 and obsessed with Fireman Sam at the time, which he liked best. He said his favourite was Nina because it sounded like a fire engine!

The only negative is that if u say it repetitively u sound a bit like an ambulance.

I am so glad others agree that Gina is nothing like Nina (and neither is Tina!).

I love Nina because it is timeless, it works across many languages and cultures, its easy to pronounce and spell yet is not to common and its feisty to my ears. It has various means in different languages but they are all really positive: grace, mother, girl, powerful, excellent, friend....

Well Gina sounds like Jean, which is not pretty and looks like a nn for Georgina.

Nina is so good partly because it is a stand-alone name, not a nn.

I like it a lot. I've only ever known one, she'll be in her early 20s now.

Nina is so much nicer than Gina, and both are nicer than Tina.

My DD was very nearly Nina. I think it's lovely. It was my DH's suggestion and he also suggested Gina and Tina (along with a few other names that don't rhyme). I totally agree with you...I really really disliked Gina and I wasn't keen on Tina either...but really like Nina!

Ugh now I'm having doubts as DH suggested Gina and I said I hated it and he laughed and asked how I could hate Gina but love Nina. To me the two names have totally different feelings.
