Thoughts on this list of girl and boy names?

Koalafications · 26/04/2015 15:21

Can I please have your honest thoughts on the below list?

Girls names
Eden
Eliza
Amelie
Ava
Faith
Fearne
Imogen
Sienna
Sophie
Willow

Boys names
Elijah
Joseph
Luca
Lucas
Oscar
Raphael
Reuben
Theodore

Obviously some names just won't be to everyone's taste but it would be good to know if any of these names are ridiculously popular, have any negative associations, or names that will mean the child will need to carry off a certain personality.

Favourite Girls names:

Faith
Fearne - although Fern may prove to be an easier spelling

Can I be cheeky and add
Leah and
Joy ?

Boys:
Raphael
Luca
Elijah

Can I add
Levi
Evan
Malachi?

Rhubarbgarden · 29/04/2015 18:50

They are all very of the moment tbh, with the exception of Faith.

I love Fern. Not Fearne though. Eliza is nice.

Koalafications · 28/04/2015 16:37

Thank you all. Really useful. Smile

DH and I are whittling it down to three of each.

I think we have decided that Ava and Oscar are too popular for us.

Girls names
Eden - love it. Really cute and funky
Eliza - it's ok
Amelie - quite like it
Ava - love it. It is very popular though if you're trying to avoid that
Faith - like it
Fearne - not keen but couldn't articulate why. Boring sound maybe?
Imogen - like it
Sienna - quite like it
Sophie - like it but again, very popular
Willow - like it but would worry about having a stocky child!

Boys names
Elijah - like it
Joseph - really like it
Luca - like it
Lucas - it's ok but much prefer Luca for some reason
Oscar - love it but very popular
Raphael - not keen, it's sounds a bit soft and fancy to me
Reuben - really like it
Theodore - not keen. Don't like Teddy either

I'd choose Eden and Oscar

TempsPerdu · 28/04/2015 15:03

Like Eliza and Fern (spelt this way). Love Willow as a middle name, but not as a first for some reason! Amelie, Ava, Sienna and Eden are all too faddy and 'of the moment' for my taste. Sophie is pretty but a bit bland and overdone. Imogen and Faith are OK.

Love Raphael and quite like Reuben. Oscar's lovely, but its current massive popularity puts me off. Joseph is dull and overused - I know lots personally, and have taught literally dozens. Never been a fan of Lucas - I always think mucus - and Luca is too faddy and a bit dated already imo. Elijah still feels too overtly Biblical for me (in a way that other Biblical names like Gabriel, Noah and Nathaniel don't - not sure why this is). Theodore is just OK - like the 'Theo' bit, but less keen on the 'dore' sound!

My picks would be Eliza or Fern and Raphael.

moggle · 28/04/2015 14:26

We have a baby Eliza and we've had a ton of compliments on her name.
I've met a lot of baby Theo's, Ava /Eva /Evie's, and Amelie's over the past few months.
I like Joseph a lot; Elijah too but couldn't really use it ourselves now with anEliza!

bluechameleon · 28/04/2015 14:20

Eliza, Sophie and Imogen I really like
Amelie, Ava - very "now"
Eden, Faith, Fearne, Sienna and Willow I don't like

Elijah, Joseph, Reuben, Theodore and Oscar I like
Lucas is ok
Luca and Raphael I think only work if you are Italian.

thegreylady · 28/04/2015 12:25

Eden and Sienna seem a bit 'Toddlers and Tiaras' the rest are lovely.

AgnesSand · 28/04/2015 12:12

Eliza and Theodore are lovely

Guin1 · 28/04/2015 04:05

Favourites are Eliza, Imogen, Joseph and Theodore.

Koalafications · 27/04/2015 22:34

Do you like Eliza and Joseph or think they are the worst of the list Allthat?

OP posts:
Allthatnonsense · 27/04/2015 21:49

Koalafications · 27/04/2015 19:21

Eden- a lot of them
Eliza- old fasioned
Amelie- beautiful but a lot of them
Ava- too many
Faith- I like
Fearne- I like a lot
Imogen- ok
Sienna- princess (not in a good way)
Sophie- ordinary
Willow- nice

Elijah- nice
Joseph- zzzzzz
Luca- love it
Lucas- nice but I know a lot of them, what a difference one letter makes
Oscar- lovely but everywhere
Raphael- love and I know a lovely one
Reuben- don't like
Theodore- chipmunk

From that list I would choose Fern, Luca, Raphael

IvoryMadonna · 27/04/2015 11:06

I've never met anybody called Eden. Is it really popular now? The only times I've come across it is in the novel 'A Dark Adapted Eye', and a 1960s male singer called Eden Kane (stage name).

BreeVDKamp · 27/04/2015 08:15

Eden - really like but think people pick it to be 'different', and then it's not really different anymore (can't explain it!)
Eliza - nice, classic, not childish
Amelie - lovely
Ava - love it but WAY overdone
Faith - bit too wet for me
Fearne - don't have any feeling any way
Imogen - lovely
Sienna - bit faddy
Sophie - nice but plain
Willow - I would never call my child this as our kids are highly unlikely to be long and lean! Depends on your genes I'd say.

Elijah - I don't like it but don't have a reason.
Joseph - our DC due in May will be Joseph if turns out to be a boy, so this gets my vote! Was saying to DH last night that a Joseph can be any age, you can't place them as being a nineties or forties baby for example. Good, solid name!
Luca - I'd expect some Italian heritage, although not sure if it's an Italian name??
Lucas - fine
Oscar - really like but too popular
Raphael - again would expect some foreign heritage
Reuben - doesn't click for me
Theodore - really like!! Love Ted.

Blondie87 · 27/04/2015 08:02

I really like Imogen & Reuben.

StupidBloodyKindle · 27/04/2015 01:11

Love Eden Imogen Luca and Raphael

swimmerforlife · 27/04/2015 00:47

Girls names
Eden - A bit 'granny chick' for my liking but if that floats your boat then go for it.
Eliza - I'm indifferent, perfectly usable name.
Amelie - Again indifferent, just so many Amelias/Amelies/Emilias about.
Ava - so so popular
Faith - not keen, looks like your religious. (tho nothing wrong with that!)
Fearne - lovely name, though I prefer it spelt 'Fern'
Imogen - popular but a good decent name
Sienna - lovely.
Sophie - done to death for the past 30 years.
Willow - gorgeous, my favourite.

Boys names
Elijah - I quite like it, love Eli as a nickname

Joseph - dislike it.
Luca - my favourite
Lucas - Nice but prefer Luca
Oscar - Popular
Raphael - Really dislike it, unless you Spanish/Italian etc, I think it would look a bit daft if your both English
Reuben - Lovely name
Theodore- not keen.

Tubbytimmy · 26/04/2015 22:24

timelyreminder · 26/04/2015 19:28

Eden - perhaps a bit faddy?
Eliza - a cockney maid from 1900 (nothing wrong with that)
Amelie - Amelia is nicer and more classic
Ava - lovely name, very popular though (along with Eve, Evie, Eva) if that bothers you
Faith - pretty and underused, nice meaning too
Fearne - I think of this as a bit naff and showbizzy
Imogen - don't like
Sienna - like
Sophie - one of the best of your list, a classic
Willow - like

Elijah - classic, solid name
Joseph - classic, solid name
Luca - OK, a bit frilly compared to Luke
Lucas - see Lucas
Oscar - don't like
Raphael - a bit frilly
Reuben - quite like
Theodore - like, classic

Koalafications · 26/04/2015 18:05

Thanks for your feedback all.

Tubbytime Are you saying that Eden and Theodore are your favourites or that they are the ones you like the least?

I do like Oscar, Ava & Sophie but I think they may be too popular for my liking.

OP posts:
ashesandfire · 26/04/2015 17:44

Eden, Amelie, Ava, - I see them as a bit faddy, of this time, will date
Faith, Fearne - a bit plain for me
Eliza, Sophie - love both
Willow - I like it. Might be an odd name if she's a bit on the heavy side?! (Not Willowy!)
Imogen- love- my name, everyone always says how lovely it is

Oscar - very popular
Elijah, Joseph, Luca, Lucas, Reuben love them all and not too popular in my experience
Raphael, Theodore - not for me. Raphael a bit much IMHO

My faves are probably Eliza or Sophie & Reuben or Lucas

sweetpeame · 26/04/2015 17:31

Amelie and Imogen were on my list if DS was going to be DD. Sophie is very popular according to stats and Ava as well I think. Depends if that bothers you or not. All in all I like your girls list with the exception of Eliza and Faith. Theodore nn Ted and Reuben are on my list for DS so they're my favourites. Oscar is very popular (again if that bothers you). Also like Luca and Raphael nn Rafa.
