What are your thoughts on Joan as a name? I wasn't keen at first but dp is a fan and it is the name of my favourite singer (her of Woodstock/Bob dylan fame). It is growing on me!

I learnt this poem when I was little…Grin

What lovely names for girls there are!
There's Stella like the Evening Star,
And Sylvia like a rustling tree,
And Lola like a melody,
And Flora like a flowery morn,
And Sheila like a field of corn,
And Melusina like the moan
Of water. And there's Joan, like Joan.

(I still like the name Joan though!)

Not my taste either.

It was Joanie in Happy Days, wasn't it?

Prefer Joanne or Joanna.

I know two baby Joan's (one known as Joanie) I think it's coming back!

And there was Joan Baker in the Chalet School. She was portrayed as a brazen strumpet because she once flirted with a boy, and nice gels did not flirt. In Chalet School land nice gels married their childhood GP.

Like it but prefer Jean. Joan is an Enid blyton character who's always sad :(

timelyreminder · 21/04/2015 14:56

I like it.

HouseAtreides · 21/04/2015 14:26

I prefer Jean. :)

Reminds me of Shakespeare but not in a good way.

Tu-whit, tu-who a merry note
While greasy Joan doth keel the pot

There's always glamorous Joan from Mad Men I suppose but my first association is 'greasy'.

Lovely name - start the revival!

BunnyLebowski · 21/04/2015 14:08

I'm a big fan of retro names but can't warm to Joan.

Joanie is cute and very Americana though Smile .

SunnyBaudelaire · 21/04/2015 14:08

I like it, due a revival surely, along with Jean.
