Does arthur go with Charlotte

For months we've been set on a top 10 name, but now with 3 weeks to go we're thinking of arthur, or Artie for short. What do you think? Our dd is Charlotte- do they go? X

I think Charlotte and Arthur go together just fine.

DS has a popular classic name and DD a much less popular and old fashioned name, they don't exactly "go" but they don't sound stupid.

To clarify, I don't mean "uht" rhyming with "but".

More like the neutral vowel ? (the schwa). So "lotte" doesn't rhyme with hot, but the vowel in "lotte" is like the a in "about".

And the vowel the end of Arthur would be the same.

Im in deepest darkest 'jannerland' most of the time my daughter ( she is referred to as either charlotte or lottie) has the 'tt' completely missing, and as for 'arfer'...

Have to say love both names together (arthur is on our short list for dc3)

I don't live in the West Country, but I've never in my life heard anybody say Charl-uht.

The ur and o are often reduced to the "uh" sound by most speakers.

Arth-uh and Charl-uht.

Exceptions would include the West country where Arthur would be Arth-urrr, or an overly pedantic pronounciation of Charl-ot.

Actually, they don't even have the same vowel sounds! Arth-UR and Char-LOTTE are completely different.

The names are fine. They don't have to "go", but there is nothing incongruous about them.

I agree with puddock that they're too similar. If you take the consonants out they both sound AR-uh.

IMO Arthur/Artie and Charlotte sound too similar (both with that "ar" sound) - and the short versions of Lottie and Artie are too similar with the "tie" ending - but I see I'm in the minority :)
