I say Bryony you think..

Hi all

I posted a few days ago about Alana/Lana which I still absolutely adore, but DH threw Bryony into the works a few days ago after reaching an article by Bryony Gordon. I had never even considered it before but I really like it. My friend thinks it just sounds like a female version of Brian though.

Growing up I always liked the name Briar Rose (as in sleeping beauty) but now think it's a little tacky so Bryony seems like a nice alternative. If not for first name perhaps middle? Alana Bryony, does that go?

Briony was the school bully who was fighting all the time and was (and still is) very 'chavvy' sorry! I cant see past that.

Lana and Alana are lovely names though and were top of our list last time :)

I love it and it makes me think of the plant, not Brian.

I really like it but would spell it like Deal suggested. I knew a Briony at school, she was lovely so the name has good associations for me.

I love it! Makes me think of Bryony the Wrapping Elf in Arthur Christmas :)

I would also never associate it with the name Brian!

Brine, as in tuna fish in brine rather than spring water.

Briny = salty, fishy smells

I love the name Bryony, it reminds me of my beautiful niece. Don't think of Brian at all. Although now she's a teenager her mates all call her Bry.

Too many 'y's! I know it's not really a misspelling, but it just looks a bit wrong to me. Doesn't make me think of Brian particularly.

Not sure that Alana Bryony really works, but it depends on your surname really.

Personally, I don't like it sorry. I don't know what it is about it yhough...

I like Lana a lot though! Beautiful, but not too über girly and frilly either.

Bryony is lovely, I don't think of Brian, it's a plant. Love botanical names anyway and Bryony is a favourite. I think of autumn, hedges full of Bryony and old mans beard, a bit of frost in the air. It's very romantic.

Alana or Lana not for me, I'm afraid.

I think it is a lovely name, but would spell it Briony. Alana is lovely too- Alana Rose or Briony Rose. Like Bethany as well if you want something similar to Briony.

I don't hear Brian when I say it, and never even thought it. I went to school with a Bryony and she was lovely. I really liked her name and we called her Bry pie (which was her nn from her family and she loved it). I also had a Bridie in my class as well (pr Bry-dee)

If you cannot get over the Brian association, Alana Bryony sounds nice :)

Loved it until I told DP and he proceded to sing

"Bryony! A girl called Bryony..." A la life of Brian.

Not keen on it (although I love Alana as per your previous post!). IMO middle names are only relevant when they're used to honour someone or have a family/close friend connection so I never really understand why people put as much thought into them as they seem to do. In saying that I think Alana Bryony is a bit of a mouthful but as she will probably never use her middle name it really doesn't matter very much IMO.

I have never ever ever thought of "Brian" when I hear Bryony.

I like it, I think "Scottish" for some reason.
