Partner really likes this name for a girl, as he lived in France for a few years when younger so pronounces it the correct way Ah-Nay-Ees, where as I want to pronounce it an-nays, and I think where we live (UK) people would pronounce it the same way as me.

I think the spelling and name is pretty and the meaning (very important to us). However not sure it goes with our children Charlie and Tilly.

How would you pronounce it?
Does it 'go' with our children's names?

I agree they don't have to match just wasn't sure if it was so far away from their 'ee' ending names. We also watch Gumball as well :)
Keturahlee love Annie as it has family connections but Oh isn't that keen.

I personally think people will struggle with the pronunciation, and I would hate for my child to keep correcting everyone her whole life!

It's pretty (also know it from Gumball!) but pronunciation is tricky.

It doesn't really match your other names, but does it need to? They will only be Charlie, Tilly and Anais as children, for the rest of her life she'll just be Anais Smith.

How about Annie though?

Nice, but only if spelt and pronounced correctly: Anaïs [ah-nah-ees]

Guin1 · 11/04/2015 15:50

I would have pronounced it ah-nay. I think it's very pretty whichever way it's pronounced and agree with wiggly about sibling names not having to 'match'. I think it's almost better if they don't! Does your name match your partner's?

Now you've said how to pronounce it id say the French way I die however read it as anis at first

MustBeLoopy390 · 11/04/2015 15:22

It's 'Ah-neye-ees' to me, and I adore that name :) clueing my kids love that show lol op I wouldn't worry about it not fully matching your other dc's names, although I think all three go lovely

OopTheShard · 11/04/2015 15:17

I love it pronounced Ann-eye-ees, but the Ann-nay and Ann-ays pronunciations are naff for me, sorry.

HSMMaCM · 11/04/2015 15:10

Lovely name. I knew one, pronounced ah-neigh, but sometimes people added an s or pronounced it differently. Still pretty though.

Clueing4looks · 11/04/2015 15:07

Ann-eye-eese.

Only know that because of the little sister in the amazing world of gumball cartoon

I think it goes with your other DC.
Do you plan to shorten it or use a nickname?

AuntieStella · 11/04/2015 15:05

I think it's lovely, but only when pronounced the proper (by which I mean French) way.

wigglylines · 11/04/2015 15:03

Lovely name. I'd pronounce it the French way if that's the correct way.

I don't think having matching names matters that much, all your kids will have different personalities.
