Do you like Ottilie?

For DD due in the summer?

I'm really struggling with names and just can't decide - go from one to the other. I don't know any other Ottilie's but at the same time it isn't vastly unusual, I don't think.

If you don't like it, feel free to make other suggestions!

I'm not keen, sorry. To me, it just says Boden/Mint Velvet/Mumsnet ,which is grand if that's your thing but to me it's a bit prissy.

Men hate this name! I really wanted it dh vetoed on grounds I had "made it up". Went for clementine instead but really like ottilie. I also like Augusta so accept I may have a dodgy taste in names.

We have one and we love it.

Never had a buttery joke. I like otters.

It does irritate when some miss their t's but not that much.

Go with up if gut. I knew I'd regret it if we didn't go with it because of what others might thing.

My friend's dd2 is called Ottilie. Hated it at first and told her so. But now, what with her dd2 being such an adorable bundle of joy that I love very much, I love the name - I guess liking a name has a lot to do with association. It's shortened to Ottie which is great.

I love your other DC names and I love Hugo though.

Seren is lovely but very popular and I've heard English people pronounce it strangely.
Imogen is lovely.
Mabel is lovely.

Oh and I like Rosamund too. You could have Rose or Rosie or Rosa as a nickname rather than Roz.

DP is Ottilie. She spends a lifetime correcting people's pronunciation and spelling it, repeatedly (and mostly people still get it wrong!).

But, it's a beautiful name and increasing in popularity.

I like Ottilie, could be Otty or Tilly for short, whether you intend to shorten or not others will.

How about Olive, Olivia, Ida, Marcella (Marcie)?

I'm not keen on Nina - there was a girl at my school called Nina I didn't like! Serena is gorgeous on its own I think.

I know you said you aren't a family for nicknames, but if you do go for Serena I always think Nina is a lovely shortening.

Really like Mariana, OP. Also Odette Churchill = great heroine. Other ballet names could be Giselle (very pretty)/Gisela, Aurora, Clara, Carlotta, Pierina (as you know, two great early ballerinas), Ninette, Alicia...

Probably not your taste, but I also like Romola, Dorothy/Dorothea, Silvia, Cecily, Melissa

I like Mariana, although I think you would probably get a lot of people asking how it's spelt (one "n" or two?) which you said you would like to avoid.

Marina is similar, but I think people will know how to spell it.
