Vera, Mabel or Hyacinth?

What do you think when you hear these names?

I like Vera a lot. YY to 'modern and coolly European'.
Mabel is a bit twee imo.
I prefer Jacinta (Spanish and iirc Portuguese) to Hyacinth.

I just couldn't name my child any of those names and would probably inwardly scoff every time I called the register if I had one in my class.

Mabel is the lesser of the 3 evils but Vera and hyacinth are just ridiculous

My Grandma (who'd be about 95 now if still alive) was a Vera and she hated it; she used to pretend her name was actually Veronica.

Hyacinth is awful. Mabel, I quite like. I really wish we'd called one of our dds Sylvie. I just love it and I can't think why we didn't use it.

I had a gorgeous gran called Vera. I would have loved to have named my DD after her, but I couldn't do it to the poor child. Even with all that family love.

Vera is lovely. I don't think it is that old ladyish, really - it feels quite modern and coolly European.

Veronica, Hazel, or Margaret (sticking with the original consonants) are much better.

I know people who have French bulldogs and these old lady names (and old man names) are what they use for puppies.

Can't help seeing little squashy faces and bandy legs.

I like Vera (I prefer Phyllis though). Mabel is nice too...

I like Vera and Mabel, they both have a few easy nicknames, short, sweet yet not cutesy, easy to spell, easy to learn to write. Yeah, lots of positive points.

Hyacinth is awful.

I've only met one Hyacinth irl and he was a he (around 16 yrs old I believe). Mainly I just think of Hyacinth Bucket.

To my mind Mabel is a name for a cow.

Vera sounds quite sophisticated - along the same lines as Ava.

Vera - very harsh. Véro is softer but it would be a bit pretensh.

Mabel - very pretty imo. I also like Meryl and even Beryl! I like the sounds.
Hyacinth! oh I'm sorry, i can only think of hyacinth bouquet. It is a lovely flower though.

Vera has grown on me

Hyachinth, just vile really. There are so many gorgeus flower names.

What's wrong with Vera?

It sounds similar to Eva. Its a beautiful sounding name.
