Vera, Mabel or Hyacinth?

What do you think when you hear these names?

Mabel. I loved it for DD but DH vetoed it. Her actual name suits her better.

She has now named her clarinet Mabel in honour of the name Hmm

Hyacinth is very pretty (I'm a sucker for flower names) and i doubt many of her generation will know The Buckets! Thanks

Mabel makes me think of a lovely dog with gold fur who lives and works on a farm.

Vera is either a parrot, Duckworth, or an old singer from the War times.

Hyacinth Bucket.

They are all rank but it's your baby your choice!
They are so incredibly popular too. People (not necessarily you) think they're so ahead of the game a d I know 3 violets a planned Vera but thank god no Hyacinths
what about Bertha or Gertrude?

Vera is my Russian born aunt it roughly translates to "Faith" in Russian, so I've been told

Hyacinth, i just think Bucket, and vera is equally awful.

Mabel is quite a lot better, but then I know a 3 yr old one so has been normalised for me. Was a bit surprised when first heard it!

How about Violet or Verity?

Maud nn Maudie is very cute and sounds both retro and fresh. I like it better than the other three. Hyacinth is pretty but a bit of a mouthful for a small child. Vera (and also possibly Mabel for me) are still more granny than chic for me tbh!

I like Vera mostly because I'm a fan of Vera Brittain.
I would love to be called Mabel or Hyacinth myself, especially Hyacinth (although I do think of it as being more commonly a male name)

Mabel is very very pretty

Hyacinth is gorgeous, I'd just be concerned about the Hyacinth Bucket association

Mabel is a very pretty name and seems to be becoming more popular.
It doesn't feel that different to me then say Primrose and Ava.

Vera has a more cool vibe and i would liken it to Ivy and Iris.

Hyacinth is very unique and has potential for many sweet nn i imagine. I do think of H Bucket but i doubt the child's eventual peer group would. I remember someone being advised not to use Olive because of some 'Olive on the buses'. I think it was some show from the 60's. Point is some people may associate a name, but with the passage of time and on meeting that person new associations will be made.

All these names are memorable and i mean that in a good way.

Vera is pretty, Mabel is my cat. I prefer Cynthia to Hyacinth personally.

Vera - Duckworth. Awful- harsh sounding word.
Hyacinth - Bucket. Awful, though I love the scent of hyacinth flowers.
Mabel is ok.

I actually think Vera and Mabel are great.
Maud is quite nice. (Maudie sounds a bit like mouldy)

All awful names imo as are all granny chic names. Vera is the nicest out of them if i had to pick one
