I started a threat last week asking for opinions on Willow Addy or Orla Addy and got really negative feedback!! Our surname goes with nothing :(:( Feeling down today.

Thoughts on Harper Addy? Lynn or Rose as MN (both family members)

What is Addy about?

LillyRose86 · 03/04/2015 17:57

Addy is our surname!

fallenstar27 · 03/04/2015 17:59

Is Addy your surname or chosen middle name?

Ah wait, Lynn or Rose as middle?
Harper Lynn Addy
Willow Rose Addy

I think Harper and Willow are gorgeous names.

Ladyflip · 03/04/2015 18:02

Won't people get confused with Harper Adams university?

Pancakeflipper · 03/04/2015 18:03

What about Adele, that goes with Addy.

Made a comment about Willow on your other thread. Don't use if short stocky types. You need to be willowy to be a Willow.

SirVixofVixHall · 03/04/2015 18:04

I loathe Harper, it is my friends surname, so that doesn't help as to me it sounds like calling a little girl Rogers or Davies. Also there is the whole Beckham thing.
Like all the others though, and I think as long as you avoid names ending with a Y then most things work with your surname.

LillyRose86 · 03/04/2015 18:05

Adele does go beautiful I just don't like it enough to use it! Nice name though!

Sorry, that was a bit rude of me.

I can see it is a difficult surname. I would try and find a name that ends in a consonant, e.g. Kate, Helen etc . I know those two examples are a bit old fashioned but you get the idea. I'm too tired to think of anything modern!

binspin · 03/04/2015 18:06

Ah! Sorry I thought it was a middle name that you were very insistent on!

I love Willow especially from your list but am not a fan of Harper tbh.

Felicity Rose Addy
Esme Penelope Addy

Eggrique · 03/04/2015 18:06

Personally I think you need a first name with more syllables for it to flow off the tongue together with Addy.
So I'd go for Penelope off your list, but then if people shorten it to Penny then I don't think the two names go so well.

I did use a website to suggest names you might like if you like X, but you're probably not looking for more suggestions?

LikeABadSethRogenMovie · 03/04/2015 18:10

If you like Penelope, what about Philippa? Even the shortened, Pippa, goes with your surname.

Pancakeflipper · 03/04/2015 18:11

Rachel
Simone
Rose
Suzanne
Miriam
Clara

PotteringAlong · 03/04/2015 18:13

Harper Addy reminds me of the Harper Avery award in greys anatomy! That might just be me though.

I don't like Harper at all as a name, partly because I live in Canada and our PM is Stephen Harper, always referred to as Harper and very divisive, but also because I really dislike surnames as first names, especially for girls. But that's just my taste of course.

I think with a slightly tricky surname you have to look a bit harder, and the OP has the issue of a surname that starts with a sound that many girls names end with as well as ends with a sound that a whole load of other names end with. I'd avoid any 'a' ending names and any 'y / ie' ones too. That probably means a consonant sound is what you need.

Of the OPs choices Willow works best, but Lynn actually in my mind is better because you can hear the beak between first name and surname better, like Oscar (Oscar James Addy is nice OP!). I do agree with the person that said a longer name flows better too.

Christine Rose Addy
Mirabel Lynn Addy
Eleanor Rose Addy
Hazel Lynn Addy

NormaSwilley · 03/04/2015 19:05

Harper is a horrible name, makes me think of harpies or someone harping on about something. It is a surname, not a forename.

Lots of names go with Addy, something with several syllables has the best rhythm, but not ending with an 'a' vowel sound.

Elizabeth Addy
Catherine Addy
Marilyn Addy
Josephine Addy
Margaret Addy

Those are not suggestions but just examples of names that flow well. There are many more.

mathanxiety · 03/04/2015 19:09

Harper Lynn Addy is nice, imo. I know Harper isn't everyone's cup of tea and it isn't one I would choose for a child of mine, but it goes well with the surname.

Are you keen on Lynn for family name reasons?

I think Penelope Addy is by far the nicest of your names. Really gorgeous.
How about Penelope Rose Addy?

Eggrique · 03/04/2015 19:17

Mark Addy the actor (Full Monty) has a son called Oscar Smile

I was thinking OP, as you have two choices for middle names, why not try Roselyn/Rhoslyn/Rosalyne (various spellings) for a first name or Rosalind/Rosalynde?
Rosalynde Willow Addy maybe and maybe you could choose Orlando for a boy (As You Like It reference)

Seeing as other people are adding suggestions I think my favourites with the surname would be
Clementine
Nicole
Mariam
Catriona and maybe Charlotte

C0w · 03/04/2015 19:26

Harper Addy sounds better than willow addy or orla addy so you're getting somewhere.

It's not a name i like though.

Penelope Addy sounds good.

BifsWif · 03/04/2015 20:08

Isla or Piper would work well with Addy, and you might like those of you like Harper?

Others I like are Caitlyn, Bethan, Louisa and Sophia.

Don't worry too much, it's very rare people will be saying her full name, don't get disheartened.

ThroughThickandThin · 03/04/2015 20:14

Orla Addy is very nice. Why didn't people like it??

Isla Addy too.

I think names ending in 'a' or 'er' or 'ar' as in the Oscar you've chosen, work really well.

I'm not keen on Harper but mainly because of Harper B.

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 03/04/2015 20:18

Harper Lynn Addy is nice

I also really like the suggestion of Roslyn or Roselyn.

Roselyn Penelope Addy
