Popular names you think will end up being faddy / genrational / "two thousand and teensie" names"

I reckon pretty much ALL names currently in the top 100 will date.

If you look at the top 100 names from the 1960s or 1970s I bet hardly any of them are still popular.

Some stick around longer than others, but very few are truly timeless.

I don't like Freya because of the character in Doctors (daytime tv drama)
But it has become more popular & I think it'll fade along with Jayden/Kayden etc.

I'm not sure about names that are going to date to the 2010s, it seems a bit early to say. Unless you're someone who knows loads of babies. As a teacher, I know mainly children aged 7 and up.

So, assuming that all of the above are currently popular names for babies and young children, then, based on my highly scientific anecdotal evidence, the following are ones that are specifically dating to the 2010s (the others were equally or more popular in the later 1990s and the 2000s)

Freya, Finn, Isla, Stanley, Betty, Elsie, Courtney, Ava, Emilia, Amelia, Poppy, Ruby, Jayden, Kayden, Sidney, Archie, Jackson, Jensen, Lexi, Erin, Hebry, Nevaeh, Madison, mason, Xantha, Orla, Darcey, Scarlett, Violet, Reuben, Teddy, Arlo, Ethan, Dexter, Riley, Logan, Jensen, Elijah, Kai and Theo

Its harder to say now as names are generally more varied and whilst for example 'old lady/men' are popular now, they have been popular before so wont be tied to a single generation.

Possiblly - Ava, Evie, Millie, Poppy, Darcey, Freya, Amelie, Tilly

Alfie, Noah, Oscar, Finley, Theo, Jayden/ Kayden etc.

There are more names in the mix now so even the top 10-type names (the ones that aren't "classics" like Emily, Rose or Oliver) won't become the Sharons and Kevins of their time, which IMO only became what they are because of class associations and snobbery.

I agree with ^^ above that some of the old lady/old man chic names will seem very much of their time, but they won't ever be treated with the same vitriol.

FWIW I think Sharon is a beautiful name. (it's not mine, I promise)

Ava, definitely. Hyphenated names such as Ava-Grace, Mia-Rose, Sophia-May etc. Even though the names themselves are nice (or would be without the hyphens, which I dislike). For boys Fin or Finley, and Alfie. There are already several of these, even within my own extended family. Why can't people be a bit original?

Ds3 was going to be Freya if he'd been a girl. He's 15 now. I wouldn't chose it now if I had a baby (impossible!), not quite so keen on it.

Freya is definitely not a 2010+ name. It was getting popular long before that.

Esp Archie, all the variants of Eva/Ava, Noah, Sophie/Matilda, variants of Abbie, Mia, grandparent type names, neaveh, American surnames type names like Mason and Madison.

Noah - the only one I know over 5 is in the Bible.

I like those names, as I do the Karen's and Lindsey's of my age group. I think with most names apart from the classics that stay popular e.g. James, you can have a good guess at age

Spent last 20 years in Scotland and North of England. Isla doesn't seem so faddy to me as Amelia!

South East england here funny. I'm 50 have two great mates who are Oliver's and a mil who is Amelia!

Lots of ds1 friends are Oliver's aged 19/20.

I don't know a single Oliver or Amelia / Amelie over 10. Names can be quite regional too ime.

I think any name where you don't know anyone of that name in their 20,s, 30's, 40's, 50's. So not for me Oliver, Rose, Amelia. I know quite a few of all ages.

For me it would be Kayden, Jayden, as very modern. And names like Stanley, Sidney which although arent modern lost their popularity for a few decades and have reappeared very recently.
