Apparently Jonathan nn Jonty is too ordinary for my DH ...I prefer the word classic. ..and he should have a strong more unusual but not daft name. This is a direct quote. I asked like what and he suggested Flint. Not happening. Please help x

I'm just intrigued by their different reactions to what are quite similar names. If we can nail down what it is that puts them off, it might help.

bridgetsmummy · 05/04/2015 14:08

Rory is the best out of all those names, I love it Smile

Rosie29 · 05/04/2015 14:02

I adore the name Blake, please use it...I never will ??

IvoryMadonna · 05/04/2015 13:59

Donovan has a very similar sound and rhythm to Jonathan. It's funny how you can love one and hate the other. Mind you, I think Jonty is a dreadful nn so could that be what has put him off? I have a cousin named Jonathan and he's always been Joe for short.

There's also not a huge leap between Donovan and Duncan. What is it that you don't like?

Ask him if he likes the name Law or Lars or Lance or Larry or Lore or Renny

These are all nicknames for Lawrence

Box5883284322679964228 · 03/04/2015 08:33

With Laurence, the nick name Laurie is much like Rory

Quasilulu · 03/04/2015 06:37

Thanks. Nothing is firing for us both at the moment.

Aloysius (Alo-wish-us) nn Alo

Rory is fairly traditional. Do you not like this one off his list?

Quasilulu · 02/04/2015 06:56

Eek Clint is horrid! Daren't suggest it as he'll probably love it. Did the 5 names each list last night. Not looking good. DD Melissa.
