We have been really struggling for boys names, if it were a girl I would probably have the opposite problem with not being able to decide which name I like best but we're finding boys names really difficult. We've so far went through Anthony (loved it but don't like it when it's pronounced Antony) Francis/frankie but I had a best male friend (not bf) years ago called this and everyone seemed to think I was naming baby after him, which seemed a bit weird for DP. I also loved elijah but was told I couldn't name my son after a vampire from the vampire diaries, which in fairness is where I got the name Grin My DM is also desperate for me to call him john/Johnny after my dad who passed away last year and although I think it would be a really nice sentiment I just can't bring myself to name him john. Now DP has came up with the name Connolly and I think I really like it but then my hormones are still a bit wild! I've never heard of a connolly and it does have family connections on his side but I'm worried it's a bit too unusual. Could you please be honest with me, I've six weeks left and would rather start looking for an alternative again now than when baby arrives. I don't want my son to be the little boy with no name as that's how I'm referring to him now when people ask. Sad

Corey?

QOD · 31/03/2015 06:18

I like Connelly
CONAL
CAlum
CORMACK

my friends siblings

User24689 · 31/03/2015 02:49

I know a Conleth - I have always loved the name. He's Irish. I prefer that to Connelly which I agree sounds too surnamey. Also Connelly will likely be shortened all the time, so you'll end up with a Con.

Jumblebee · 30/03/2015 23:37

Connolly is a no from me, but I LOVE Elijah! (Big VPD fan here) although I thought of LOTR when I first read it. I think Elijah with John as a middle name is really cute too Smile

CarriMarie · 30/03/2015 23:34

What about Elias, or Jonathan?

squoosh · 30/03/2015 23:28

Makes me think of......

is this a bit out there?

Love Connolly personally- opposite to PP we are considering Sullivan for our LO! Weirdly Elijah is also on our list with Eli as nn! What I would say is whatever you choose to go with once you have don't tell anyone- no ones going to make unsavoury comments about a name once it is cute lovely baby'a that they are cuddling! That's what we're going to do as we've already been met with comments such as 'it can be any of those except X' and 'no not that one definately' when showing our list to PIL/SIL- like I was going to say 'oh thankyou for giving me permssion to use the others' there on or list for god sake means we like them I couldn't give 2 hoots if they like them or not and they were told 'oh well tough luck if that's what we go for' and also that from now on we are not discussing any further!! Good luck!!

Really don't like Connolly. I'm not a fan of surname-as-first-names in any case but this is most definitely in surname territory (and very common in Ireland as a surname). As previous posters have suggested how about Cormac or Conrad? Conor (which is the way it's spelt in Ireland) isn't a "chav" name. Not sure I've ever come across a Conor in the 10 years I've been in the UK but I wouldn't consider it a chav name.

Didiusfalco · 30/03/2015 22:23

Agree with previous poster - Elijah John is great. Its a biblical name so i think your DH is being a bit daft connecting it so strongly with TVD. Even if that is what people think of, its hardly the worst thing - elijah mikaelson is a lovely vampire Smile

Connolly is pretty awful however - please don't do it.

MrPicalilly · 30/03/2015 22:05

Could also be nn Nathan?

MrPicalilly · 30/03/2015 22:04

Love Elijah. How about Jonathan as a compromise between Anthony and John? It shares similar elements

Jonathan Elijah

Hadron21 · 30/03/2015 22:02

Jonathan or Cormac?

BellMcEnd · 30/03/2015 21:59

What about Caleb? Not very common and has the vampire connection!

Sophronia · 30/03/2015 21:56

How about Conrad instead of Connolly?

QueenBean · 30/03/2015 21:51

OP, if you like vampire names, try this - you might be able to sneak one past your DH!

Thanks for the replies, I did put Connor out there at the beginning of my pregnancy but DP said it was too common and I sort of agreed. The chav comment has got me a bit worried, I was afraid people would maybe think chavvy but because it's so uncommon I thought it would be OK. I still really like Elijah but I'm never going to convince him with that one he already thinks I'm obsessed with vampires Grin

I was going to recommend Conal too. I am not keen on Connally but appreciate its personal taste so if you like it and it's family connected, go for it!

Hakluyt · 30/03/2015 21:32

Why not John? Or Jonathan? Jonty is a good nickname. And I know loads of boys and I only know one John and no Jonathans.

Skinnymalinksmalogenlegs · 30/03/2015 21:32

I was going to suggest Conall too, this is the spelling I know in Ireland, but Connell may be easier for pronunciation/spelling if you are in England Smile

ThroughThickandThin · 30/03/2015 21:28

Not keen. What about Jonathan nn Johnnie?

Smartiepants79 · 30/03/2015 21:26

It's ok.
Sounds a bit made up for my taste and I like all of your other suggestions much much better.
I would go for Elijah john if I was you!

jusdepamplemousse · 30/03/2015 21:25

Alt spelling Conal. That's actually the more common spelling I think.

jusdepamplemousse · 30/03/2015 21:24

What about Connell? It's a legitimate forename iykwim - Irish. Although if you like Connelly best go for it. I've heard much much worse.

EatingChocEggsByMyself · 30/03/2015 21:22

I like it. I also like Elijah and I wouldn't have thought of the vampire connection.

I find Connor too commonly used and wouldn't want to use it myself.

Heels99 · 30/03/2015 21:22

I like Jonathan.

Connelly I don't like it has an unfortunately Chav ring to it, also don't like surnames as first names. If you want an Irish name how about aidan
