Hi everyone,
Can I ask for your opinions on the name Boadicea please?

I ran it past my folks at the weekend and they were quite shocked that we were thinking of this name...not the reaction I was expecting!

Do you like it? What is your instant reaction to it? I like the idea of giving my daughter a strong, individual name but not if it is going to have people sniggering behind my back!

Really appreciate your opinions :)

I like it, except for the 'dic' in it. And I prefer Boudica. Boo is super cute for a nickname, Bo would suit an adult. It's better than anything in the current top ten.
I also like Nefertiti.
And Cleopatra.

Bodhi is also nice, but I guess more for a boy.

squoosh, it means 'mighty in battle'. I don't think of it as frilly at all but I do think the commonly used abbreviation for it (which I don't like) is v frilly.

Depends how you want to pronounce it? She will spend a lifetime correcting people. IMO it's too big a name and would make me think the parents were try-hard knobs.

Yes, dd is called Sherman Churchill, YouPoorFuckingChild for short Grin

She is named after the A11 British Infantry Tank (BIT for short? Wink).

DS is indeed Raphael.

No, I don't particularly like it and I think its sounds archaic to modern ears.

Its also a hell of a name to live up to! Like naming your DD Cleopatra or your DS John Kennedy (I know one of the latter, btw, and everyone raised an eyebrow when he joined my DS's class).

TBH I'm not surprised your parents were shocked - its not really the first name that springs to mind when you think of a baby girl.

I think I know what the tank name is. It's a name I used to think of as being very frilly but I think that less so since hearing about the tank reference.

But then my dd is named after a tank and ds a ninja turtle so you shouldn't listen to me...

It's the 'bare-breasted warrior' connotations I'd be a bit nervous about.

And the idea of a bare-breasted warrior bank clerk in her 40s sitting at the local Natwest called "Boadicea" is just hilarious. I would never have been pretty cheesed off to have been given that name. I think the only people who could pull that name off… actually, no, I can't think of anyone.

Sorry, but there is 'out there' and then there is 'a bit cruel'.

I know a young Boudicca, her parents call her Boudi for short.
