I say Madeleine, you think...

Honest opinions needed.

She has a brother zach and a 3 syllable surname.

I don't know the sex but we seem to have a good few boys names we can agree on.

My DD's friend. She's 21 and a beautiful, lovely person. So I think of her when I hear the name.

She does get called Maddy and Mads but I always call her Madeleine.

It's only a sad association if you let it be. I don't feel sad everytime I say her name!!!!!

If it helps, we had Jessica and Amelia as our other choices xxx

To be honest it is DH's name and I wouldn't be giving it such a lot of thought if it wasn't the ONLY name he can suggest for a girl. I do like it but there are other lovely girls names I also like which don't have any sad associations.

It makes me really sad that everyone is making this connection and it's putting you off. My dd is Madeleine, is shortened...according to what she fancies using that week. She was the same age as Madeleine McCann when she disappeared, and I can honestly say that apart from the time it was all in the media, and you couldn't help but notice the name on the front of the papers, it has never crossed my mind since...I also know two other madeleines. I very much doubt anyone would be rude enough to say, even if they thought it. And if they do, I would just bloody ignore them anyway! And frankly, it's pissed me off a bit that so many people fell that way, wish I hadn't opened this now, as it's not once ever crossed my mind,

I think it's a lovely name, and if you like it, you should use it. X

I really like Maddy
I really like the name Madeleine.
I don't like Maddison or similar.

I just don't like the snap association and can just already hear dh's wanker brother making some smart arse "joke" about it.

I used to think McCann, but there are a few baby & toddler Maddy's around here now & the connection has pretty much stopped for me.

DD (3) has a very good friend at pre-school called Maddy, so I mainly just think of her.

And a lady I know of has just had a baby Madeleine - sister to Millicent & Matilda.

have never known a Madeleine called Maddy.
It's like saying all Andrews will be called Andy.
My aunt was a Madeleine with a one syllable maiden name and a two syllable married names, which were fine. I am a Madeleine with a four syllable surname and it is too much. Which is one of the reasons I don't use Madeleine.

Fairylea don't apologise that was exactly the reaction I was anticipating. Word association that's the phrase I was looking for. DH really wants Madeleine and it is indeed lovely but I just hear McCann McCann McCann and I'm not sure if I can get over that!
