Hi there, my fiance and I have reached an impasse over names for our lovely daughter born March 16th - so a week ago. We've whittled things down to either Saskia or Juliet. What do these names conjure for you? Saskia was a bit sloaney once; and I presume Juliet isn't more popular because parents worry their daughters will get teased about their "Romeo" in the playground. But they have a crystalline quality we like...

Saskia

roastpots · 24/03/2015 11:30

I prefer Juliet

Ooooooooh · 24/03/2015 10:22

Scarlet or violet could be a compromise

glittertits · 24/03/2015 10:19

I think Saskia is awful, but love Juliet.

Juliet is classy and timeless, whereas Saskia makes me think of Tara Palmer Tomkinson types.

SylvaniansAtEase · 23/03/2015 19:42

Love both pretty equally. Which brings it down to nicknames, and so it's Saskia

Sassie/Sas/Saska/Sasks v Jools/Julie.

Hate to say it but a Juliet will almost certainly end up as Jools.

MishMooshAndMogwai · 23/03/2015 19:03

Love both!

Saskia is on our name list but Juliet is equally lovely

Hakluyt · 23/03/2015 18:59

Juliet- so long as it's JUliet, not JulETTE.

cookoos · 23/03/2015 18:55

saskia for me

MirandaGoshawk · 23/03/2015 18:45

Sassy as a NN? Smile

MirandaGoshawk · 23/03/2015 18:44

I don't like Jools as a nn. Sounds a bit Jools Oliver pretentious.

MirandaGoshawk · 23/03/2015 18:44

Saskia for me, but nothing wrong with Juliet.

TempsPerdu · 23/03/2015 18:40

I prefer Juliet. Saskia still feels a bit Sloaney and 'precious' to me. Juliet's lovely though!

GlitzAndGigglesx · 23/03/2015 17:25

Santas I always think of Saskia in Eastenders but I still love the name. I guess there's bad connotations with pretty much every name now

BayMax · 23/03/2015 15:22

Saskia. It is beautiful.

VainVulva · 23/03/2015 15:13

Really like Saskia!

MrsPeabody · 23/03/2015 15:04

I like both. Middle names Elizabeth Jane.

SantasFavouriteHo · 23/03/2015 15:01

Juliet for me (love Jools as a nn)
Saskia reminds me of that one from Big Brother a few years ago...

MrsCaptainReynolds · 23/03/2015 14:59

I like Juliet but don't like to hear it with a glottal stop, which would stop me from using it.

Saskia still has remnants of sloaniness in my mind...

That's not much help really. Sorry.

KoalaDownUnder · 23/03/2015 14:56

They are both gorgeous.

I prefer Saskia, just slightly, because Juliet can end up nicknamed Jools (yuck).

MsBug · 23/03/2015 14:54

Juliet

manicinsomniac · 23/03/2015 14:51

Both gorgeous!

I think I like Juliet better.

Saskia Elisabeth Jane
Juliet Elisabeth Jane

Beautiful.

BennyLee1 · 23/03/2015 13:30

It's a little bit more 'Juliet' for him, and 'Saskia' for me, with the two grandmothers' names Jane and Elisabeth (in an order yet to be determined) as the middles... Thanks for your responses!

Both beautiful.

Saskia is Dutch & makes me think of Rembrandt, and I like the Shakespearean feel of Juliet.

I think on balance if it was me choosing I'd go with Saskia as there aren't any pronunciation issues.

With Juliet you'll get JOO-liet (which is the pronunciation I prefer), or Juli-ETTE, which to me should be spelled Juliette.

Difficult choice, OP. Toss a coin? Grin

OneMagnumisneverenough · 23/03/2015 13:15

Juliet for me - or actually I'd have Julia.

OrionsAccessory · 23/03/2015 13:01

Saskia is beautiful, it's one of my top names for dc3 if we have another girl.
