5 weeks to go... its a boy with no name!

So we have some names that we sort of agreed to be on our shortlist. Dh wants a strong name that is not "weird" and means he won't get picked on or be at all unique on the name front . I have suggested many names I like that he instantly vetoes because they are too unusual/not British sounding/weak. Unfortunately having accepted a shortlist was underway and leaving it a few weeks ago, I have come back to think of them now the due date is closer and am uninspired!!!

So here is the list we have:

Rory
Heath (will only be middle name due to surname though, sounds too much like Heath Ledger for us to be comfortable)
Jack
Jamie

Below is a list of names I liked but he has vetoed Sad

Sylvan (which I love)
Evander
Sylvester
Rafael
Rafe
Casper
Lex
Soren
Jay
Rowan (apparently not strong enough...)
Rustan (Rusty)
Sacha
Roscoe
Louis
Sullivan (he doesn't like names that are surnames apparently)
Raymond
Brook

These are two I don't know whether to bring up... only to get shot down!

For matching purposes older sibling dd is Kaitlin Meadow. Surname ends in -er which is a spanner in the works for lots of good names since we dislike the rhyme (though if brilliant it might be workable). Definitely after a naturey middle name to match dd's.

Anyone got any clever ideas? Cos I'm out...!

scrambled two of your names are on my list! Dh vetoed Nathaniel. I like Jamie and it's on the short list.

Rory, Jamie, Robinson, Jack, Monty... mn Heath. That's the short list!

I shall accept your vote as Jamie Heath then Grin

I don't like any of yours to be honest. What about Toby, Jamie, James, Conrad or Nathan. All favourites of mine.

I love Rory, in fact my mum was going to call me Rory if I had been a boy and I would have been very happy with it.

A good strong name that people will remember and possibly won't know another

akorda thanks. I'd have Robert actually but its my dad's name and that sets a precedent we don't want (especially since HIS dad was Robert too!)

You cannot call a child Robinson Heath! They would be getting Heath Robinson jokes their entire life.

Rory is a great name if the whole family can pronounce its "r"s ok! - it's and pretty unusual.

Jonty is a sweet name but think it should be a shortening for Jonathan/John for when he gets older.

I prefer Robert to Robinson. Robert is a really unusual name these days- and a rather lovely one.

These would be my favourite from your list. Have fun choosing!

I like Lucas. I also like Simeon but is too close to dh's name...

Turn up for the books... yesterday he said he would allow Monty back on the shortlist Grin but he didn't want Montgomery just Monty which is fine by me. In fact since then I remembered I like Beau, and Beaumont is a good name... introduced to all as Monty but I plan to try my luck when he arrives and just see if he will let me! Gives ds an option of Beau if he prefers it then.

He also suggested Robinson which he is going to think on (I like this idea since he can be Robin, Rob, Robbie, Bobby, and even Sonny if he wants though I don't like it.. ds might). And he didn't balk at Jonty either.

So, I'm going to leave the poor man in peace for a while and sit happily with my list of mainstream and possibly not so mainstream to choose from when he gets here Smile - even if only one non mainstream one ends up as an option, it will just be great to have that option!

I still think he might end up as Rory Heath. Which is ok if he looks like one... But maybe Monty Heath... Shock

If we ever have a ds2 I will allow hubby a Jamie Jack!!! Wink It is after all a pretty cute name. If it was perfect for this one I wouldn't say no.

Well, if it has to be one of the three on your shortlist, I'd go for Rory. It's a great name and it's not overly popular.

Here are some more suggestions which I hope suit the brief of "your husband will have heard of them, but they are not overly common":

If I had Ed I'd probably choose Edan.

He says no, cos of Eden being biblical, of course! Harlan is interesting but he will hate it!!!

Maybe I just have to face it that he will never choose a name he hasn't heard of before. Harumph.

He doesn't want biblical Hmm - so Jonah was a no and so is Elijah...

He's a pain in the arse!

He did suggest Lawrence which I don't mind... now he seems to be reversing.

He just said no to Ellis (just no) and Brinley too (would be shortened to Brin which is "too Welsh" - we are English). ARGH!!!! Angry

He has told me he's annoyed I want to think of names again, he thought our list was sorted. I've told him they are ok names just uninspiring and I want a name that is a little bit interesting. If we could have Heath first it would be fine but we can't. The other three names are pretty common in my opinion.
