How do you say it? theres 2 people in my friends baby groups, all spelt the same and one says it like nav-ay-a .. Then n-ee-va and the other one is n-ee-v

I like the last way but dislike it being spelled heaven backwards... How else could it be spelt?

ZolaGood thank you I stand corrected!

TheCatAteMyTaxReturn · 17/03/2015 00:57

Just. No.

Porn Star Name, however you might want to pronounce it.

ZolaGood · 17/03/2015 00:55

Turquoise Halle Berry's daughter is called Nahla which is far nicer than Neveah!

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 17/03/2015 00:50

Nevaeh is pronounced Nev-ay-ah (as far as I am aware).

If your friend wants the name pronounced Neev, she is looking for Niamh.

TurquoiseDress · 17/03/2015 00:43

I give up.
Nevaeh!
Just call her Nivea and be done with it!

TurquoiseDress · 17/03/2015 00:41

Or NEVEAH even!Blush

TurquoiseDress · 17/03/2015 00:41

Isn't Halle Berry's daughter named Navaeh?

jaykay34 · 16/03/2015 11:13

I know 3 of these, all aged between 1 and 3. All pronounced "Ner- vay- eh".

They are all children from different circles - all the mums felt they were being really unique. One is a hippie mum, one is an older career mum, and one is a bit chavvy. So it's a name that appeals across the masses.

Threeplus1 · 13/03/2015 22:23

Sounds too much like Nivea to me Confused

countessmarkyabitch · 12/03/2015 20:34

Its such a non name that it doesn't even warrant a capital letter in half the posts.

Nothing whatsoever to do with the ancient and lovely name Niamh, its a name generally used by people who can neither spell nor pronounce it properly (it has to be phonetic, since its made up it can't be other wise, so the only possible way to say it is nev-ay-ah).
Awful.

BreeVDKamp · 12/03/2015 20:30

DozyDonut I would have just said to the parents 'oh really! Nevaeh! We are seeing lots of baby Nevaehs these days, it's very popular!'... But then maybe that's an evil thing to do to a new parent... Grin

The scary thing is, my phone just autocorrected Nevaeh for me. It's THAT popular!

I remember being absolutely Shock when I first met a mum with a Nevaeh.

looki · 12/03/2015 14:16

It is not to my taste but each to their own. I know somebody whose daughter had the name and calls her Veah ( I can only presume she is trying to call the child anything except the actual given name).

On an aside the little girl mentioned above is breathtakingly pretty and could carry off being called Bagpuss !

BlueBananas · 12/03/2015 09:25

I live in Manchester and here it's pronounced Ne-vay-OR! It's horrendous! Worst "name" ever!
Niamh however is lovely, but it really grinds my gears when people spell it phonetically, it just looks like you can't spell properly
I had Niamh on the list for DD and DP ruled it out, I later found out it was because he thought it said Nymph Hmm I shit you not! People are so dumb

FeijoaSundae · 12/03/2015 09:17

Nevaeh is sooo 10 5 years ago.

BubbleGuppie · 12/03/2015 09:03

Hahaha sooo confusing! Thats why I called my son Joshua, you cant get that wrong haha

I know a Nevaeh here too. It's pronounced Nev-ay-uh. Not the same as Niamh. Which is pronounced Neev. Not the same as Neve, which is apparently pronounced Nev.
Just to add to the confusion. Grin

HerRoyalNotness · 12/03/2015 02:30

It's pron Ne-vey-ah. Seems to be popular in North America

munchkinmaster · 12/03/2015 02:12

Well I neveh!

The Niamh thing is cos mh is pronounced v in scots and Irish Gaelic.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 12/03/2015 01:44

It's pronounced N-vay-er. It's heaven spelled backwards. It's a completely different name to Niamh

DozyDonut · 11/03/2015 20:15

Don't get me started on this name! I work in a maternity hospital. Last year 'nevaeh' was very big.
Each time parents would announce the name as tho they had just invented the wheel, and I had to pretend how lovely and original it was Hmm

Always pronounced na-vay-ah but some spelt it wrong, getting the e and a around the wrong way Grin

TheJiminyConjecture · 11/03/2015 19:47

Nevaeh is pronounced Neh-Vay-ah where I'm from.

I'd imagine Niamh is the spelling of 'neev' your friend likes.

Neve is pronounced nev.

Maybe just go with poppy Wink

aoife24 · 11/03/2015 19:41

There was a thread on Chat, I think, recently: what question wouldn't you ask Mumsnet and I immediately thought: 'what should I name my baby' or 'what do you think if this name', in part because the poster might be hurt or upset by the answer.
I think this is a case in point. Nevaeh is almost guaranteed to elicit very negative responses.

DontDrinkandFacebook · 11/03/2015 19:31

All these nonsensical, far-fetched pronunciations of the same daft name make me feel positively cringey with embarrassment on the parents' behalf.

MagpieCursedTea · 11/03/2015 18:57

*called

I spent so much time trying to type Heaven backwards that I neglected the rest of my sentence!

MagpieCursedTea · 11/03/2015 18:56

My friend's SIL has a DD card Nevaeh but pronounces it Nev - A.
