Baby is a girl :) come July I will have a second daughter.

I am still struggling for names. She will have a brother called Edward and a sister called Flora.

Mariana is beautiful.

minipie · 11/03/2015 12:09

It's pretty but it does make me think of pizza and pasta first of all, and it is a bit frilly for me (one too many syllables).

I prefer Marianne...

IsadoraQuagmire · 11/03/2015 11:45

I thought of the Millais painting too. She'd always have to spell it out, but plenty of people with far more common names have to do that too.

Twinklestein · 11/03/2015 11:28

Very very pretty.

I think Mariana is pretty. How about Marina?

RL20 · 11/03/2015 08:52

Yes I do like Mariana. I've not read the other comments so not sure if anyone else has said the same but have you thought about nicknames? I went to school with a Marianne who was Maz (I'm 22) and a Marion I know (over 50) is also Maz. So it's more than likely it would get shortened to Maz at school etc

roastpots · 11/03/2015 08:21

I had a friend at uni called Marianne, which I thought was pretty. Never thought of it being like Marion...

Tapwater · 10/03/2015 22:41

Lovely and Tennysonian. Lots of nice short forms and nicknames.

sliceofsoup · 10/03/2015 22:24

I love it. It is a real name. Confused I watch an american tv show with a Mariana as one of the central characters. Shes a teenager. But I had heard of it long before that program.

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 10/03/2015 22:23

My first thought was the famous deepest trench too, and I'm not exactly a geeky scientist, loads of people may make that connection I suppose. Depends if that bothers you or not. It is a pretty name on itsown tho

HootOnTheBeach · 10/03/2015 22:23

I do like it but I'm thinking of all the ways it could be mispronounced and it's making my teeth itch!

kissedbyamoonbeammyarse · 10/03/2015 22:23

I like it. Nice strong name. I know a Marianna. Lovely woman.

I love it, but I think I'd spell it Marianna to ensure it was pronounced correctly, rather than Mari-ahna, like the trench.

MerryInthechelseahotel · 10/03/2015 22:17

Mariana is a beautiful name. I've known a couple. One was about 70yrs old so it's definitely not a new name. My dd's friend is called Mariana and loves her name.

TheRollingCrone · 10/03/2015 22:15

I also know a lovely Venezuelan woman called Mariana, she's a dentist.

turquoiseamethyst · 10/03/2015 22:14

I don't think it sounds like marijuana.

Anna is too similar to my first name.

haha marinara pizza is traditionally seafood. :)

LizzieMint · 10/03/2015 22:08

Mariana Trench is an actual trench, it's the deepest part of the planet, in the middle of the pacific.

Agree with pp that Anna is a lovely name and goes beautifully with your other two.

SylvaniansAtEase · 10/03/2015 22:06

Oh goodness, marijuana. You can't call her that, no. It does sound exactly the same!

Anna would indeed fit perfectly with both, and it is lovely.

DishwasherDogs · 10/03/2015 22:02

Bugger, just read the op properly :o
Flora is a gorgeous name, the crappy butter substitute doesn't even register against the name.

soontobemumofthree · 10/03/2015 22:01

I do really like Edward and Flora (I know that's not the question)

I love the name Anna.

DishwasherDogs · 10/03/2015 22:01

Is dd1 called Lurpak? (Sorry! :o)

turquoiseamethyst · 10/03/2015 21:59

I'm not really keen on Melissa - it sounds "hard" somehow.

Well DD1 was named after butter so just continuing the food tradition Hmm (pizza?)
