Any opinions for DC3, due end of July? :)

I love it! I'm a huge fan of the books and was torn between Lyra and Serafina..

(I didn't go with Lyra Wink I would next time though!)

fabuleux · 21/03/2015 15:16

I love it.

Totality22 · 20/03/2015 20:15

Is the person who knows 8 Lyra's born since Christmas a Midwife?

For the record I think it's a beautiful name. Am also a fan of the books !

happypotamus · 19/03/2015 13:01

I love it. It was one of the few names DH and I agreed on so it is DD2's name. We have never met another. I would prefer it not to become really popular but you can't control these things.

Persipan · 16/03/2015 21:52

That's nothing! When I was a child every girl in my class was called Lyra. (As were all the boys except three of them, all of whom were named Quillwort.)

Seriously, though; I'd suggest reading the His Dark Materials books. (This is no great deprivation as they're great.) Everyone is going to assume you were thinking of them, so you may as well make sure you're happy with that.

I think it's a lovely name.

CarlaVeloso · 16/03/2015 18:37

I know 8, yes 8 born since Christmas! It seems to be very 'now'.

Is that all? I know 22 born since Pancake Day!

comeagainforbigfudge · 16/03/2015 18:28

My oh wanted lyra on the list of potential girls names. I veto'd it because of nicknames/bullying potential (liar lyra pants on fire type)

FoodPorn · 16/03/2015 18:24

I don't like it.

Falconwolf101 · 16/03/2015 17:55

BRILLIANT, mine is Lyra!

Fumnudge · 12/03/2015 20:11

I adore it, also love Sira (same pronunciation), less linked to Northern Lights if it's a problem.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 12/03/2015 19:55

I know 8, yes 8 born since Christmas! It seems to be very 'now'.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 12/03/2015 19:51

Love!!

pilates · 11/03/2015 22:24

I like it.

johendy · 11/03/2015 22:16

I loved this name then started trying it out loud - it sound like Laura when I say it. So it came off the shortlist as it sounded dated not modern. If my accent didn't ruin it, I was really keen - a proper but uncommon name.

Marcipex · 10/03/2015 23:20

I know two in nursery. I like the meaning, but I've already heard Liar liar pants on fire...so not if your DD is likely to be sensitive to chanting.

Elllimam · 10/03/2015 20:46

Gorgeous name

akorda · 10/03/2015 20:43

It is a lovely, lovely name - such a beautiful lyrical sound. I have only met one little Lyra and doubt it will ever be over-used. Go for it!

Siennasun · 10/03/2015 20:41

I love it. If we'd had a girl she would have been Lyra. It's a beautiful name and I love the meaning - both the constellation and the Northern Lights connotations.

bluelamp · 09/03/2015 22:50

It makes me think of the Northern Lights books but it is a 'real' name as well. As far as the connection with the books go Lyra is the heroine but her name was partly chosen because it sounds like 'liar' which was one of Lyra's skills in the book. And like a PP says it's very critical of organised religion and the view that innocence and childhood is the perfect state. So you might want to bear that in mind.
