I've changed my mind at 39 weeks!

So the name we had chosen I no longer like. I'm quite interested in Irish girls names, some are beautiful & I have close links to Ireland but we are living in England, so I don't want to make it too difficult spelling wise!

We quite like Caitlin, Ciara and Teagan so far, but would you know how to pronounce these just by seeing them written down do you think? Any more suggestions? Thanks!

Yes I'd know how to pronounce those names- but I'm irish!
What about Aisling (pronounced ashling-means dream in irish)
Or Caoimhe (pronounced queeva)
Or Cara (means friend)
Or Fiona?

I love Ciara (pronounced the same as Kira) and Niamh. Don't like Caitlin or Teagan.

If you love the sound of the Irish names, why not choose one and spell it phonetically?

I've worked in schools for years and in that time have come across a Neeve, a Shinade and an Eefa.

I know how to pronounce Ciara (I think) as Keer-ra as I have taught several of them.
I have been corrected before about Caitlin, it should be pronounced like Kathleen? Or Kat-leen?
Teagan I'm not sure. The Cornish name Tegan is pronounced with a short 'e' sound (Teggan), but maybe Teagan has a long 'e' (Tee-gan)?

Although I could be saying Ciara wrong too, as I don't speak Irish just have lots of Irish roots! Grin

DP doesn't like Caoimhe, I do, but agree with the correcting people!

My fave Irish girls name is Niamh I would love to use it one day. I don't have Irish connections so I know people would question it but as you said the names are beautiful. Ciara is really nice but I think some people would struggle with the correct pronunciation especially as there's a singer who pronounces it see-air-ah. Caitlin is lovely too. I'm personally not too keen on Teagan. I like Caoimhe but that would drive me bonkers correcting people all the time

See, I would say 'Keira' or 'Keera' too for Ciara, but I am worried about all the 'see-ar-rah' and 'Key ar rah' ways!

Niamh is lovely, as is Aoife but we have a family friend called Aoife

The only one Im not sure onnthe pronounciation is Ciara but id guess at "K eye ra"

I like Caitlin best of those three, but my absoloute favourite Irish girls name is Aoife, and id not worry about others problem with it Grin
