Sally or Tamsin

We're expecting DC1 and I'm considering both the above names if it's a girl.

Also like Orla and Connie, but these have both been "taken" by friends recently.

I like 2-syllable names that are unusual but known. Surname is three syllables starting with P.

My worry with Tamsin is that it will become "Tam" or "Tammy". Does anyone know any Tamsins that became "shortened"?

Sadie is a bit trendy

Sally is fab though

I have never met a horrid Sally (not that I've met that many- Sallies are RARE)

though from your description I am thinking Sally Poppadom

Thank you so much for all your input! Seems that Tamsin probably wins out overall. I rather like the shortening Tassy that someone mentioned.

I wonder why there are no Tamsins around - to me, it's such a nice name, easy to spell and has a nice sound to it. But I have never met an under-10 with that name!

I still like Sally, but also Sadie -thanks op who mentioned that.

Will carry on mulling these over.

I quite like the name Sally, but it was my grandmother's name, so perhaps I'm swayed by that.

I can't stand the name Tamsin, and I don't like the shorter versions either. They all sound dreadful to my ear. The only Tamsin that I have actually met was shortened to Tammy (or occasionally Tams Hmm)

As a Sally must definitely under 35 I feel the need to champion my name. Grin Although I've had many opportunities to go by my "formal" name - Sara - I've never really wanted to, since Sally stands out more in my age group and has a friendly, approachable sound. (To my ear.) It ticks a lot of boxes - unique but not weird, easy to say, easy to spell. If Molly, Millie, Tilly, Sadie, etc., are on the upswing, Sally fits right in that trend. I've gotten compliments on it all my life.

I do like Tamsin, too, I must admit - you have excellent taste. Smile

Much prefer Tamsin. My niece is Tamsyn (more unusual spelling) with nn Tassy. But I think nn Tammy is fine too.

I like Tamsin/Tamsin but not keen on Tam/Tammy. I don't know any IRL so got no idea if it's a name people are likely to can't to shorten/familiarise

I also like Sally and it's nn Sal but as others have said I don't know any Sallys under 35 ....so perhaps it is due a revival!

Really dislike the name Sally, it reminds me of the pain in the neck on Corrie. Actually I quite like Corinne as a name/Corrie for short.

Sally it's a lovely name and very under used. I have only ever known one ( and I'm 49) and she is wonderful :)

I knew two Tamsins. Never shortened.

I've known two Sallys, and disliked both of them for very solid reasons. So my opinion is biased!

I love Tamsin, and also the spelling Tamzin.

I know two Tamsins, one now in her 40s, one aged 5, and both are always known as Tamsin, never a nickname.

I'm not keen on Sally at all.

Just putting it out there- Sadie is a "shortened" version of Sarah like Sally, but in my opinion much nicer.
