Terrible baby names your parents/in laws have suggested.

We've just told the patents we're having another DC.

Their suggestions so far are

Ian and
Malcolm for boys
and
Jean for a girl!

Ooh Ian is a great name! Except for the bf stage maybe it would be like bfing a Keith!

Also quite like Jean!

Boringly neither DP nor DIL suggested anything... Although I suspect Janet and David would have been top of the list.... Hmmm.

If I had had a DD my DM wanted me to use Dorcas.

I know many Malcolm's though of various ages but live in Scotland where it's fairly normal as a name.

I am definitely in the minority. I like Hercules, Red, Zeus, Thor, Jett and Geronimo...

I fear this is probably because these are the types of names my parents would have suggested in jest over the years. So I've come to love them. Much to my parents horror.

My DP is making similar suggestions. I have pointed out that I am not giving birth to a 47-year-old IT manager. My mother's list includes similar names but also includes Ethelread. You know, The Unready.

Ian has become very trendy in the US. I have two lovely American friends with young sons (under 6) called Ian. I think they do not not have the 1970s/80s associations we do as I think this is a "new" name to them. I also know an American family with four young children and their youngest son (aged about 7) is Clive!

I like Jean and Ruth.

My partners aunty suggested Marshall for my baby boy as she thinks my partner looks like Eminem. Please note, he looks absolutely nothing like Eminem! Not that that's the point. Marshall?! Not a name I like at all!

Squoosh I love Ruth - but we have a 1 syllable surname so needed something a bit longer than that. Would have been a nice middle name though...
