Terrible baby names your parents/in laws have suggested.

We've just told the patents we're having another DC.

Their suggestions so far are

Ian and
Malcolm for boys
and
Jean for a girl!

No no no!

Apologies if anyone has children by these names, but PIL (who have been divorced 25 years) suddenly united to try to force us to use relatives' names for DS - as in 'You've GOT to call baby after an ancestor'. DH pointed out that he isn't, nephew isn't & neither am I. As well as where would we stop? ALL his relatives plus all mine? Foot down. Suggestions included:

Stan
Tony (not Anthony / Antony)
Bernard
Albert
Marjorie
Barbara
Phyllis
Ida

Again, sorry if anyone has DS's by these names, but they're just not for us.

Goodness knows why but we had another chat about baby names with DM today.

She suggested

-Christine (we aren't religious)
-marlisse (we aren't German)
-Ann
-fiona
-Harriet
-Lucy

Lucy I don't actually mind but it's too popular and too girly for me.

Not the grandparents but my DH has regularly over the years suggested Valerie for a boy, saying that they use it in Russia. Neither if us have any Russian heritage or ever even visited.
Strangely enough we are having a girl but he's never once suggested it for her. Confused

Not a chance in hell, sorry mum.

We suggested an Irish name but she said no Irish names 'they are all common' Hmm

My mum suggested Felix for my DS. I thought it was a ridiculous name. I laughed at her and said there was no way I would even consider it for anything other than a cat. However, 6 years later I love it and would probably want to use it if I ever had another boy!

She also suggested Arthur after dismissing the name Joe as too "old man-ish". Still can't work that one out!

It was actually my DH that came out with the worst name suggestion for our daughter...after being on a roll with some lovely names, he suggested Denise. Just No.

My mother suggested Jenny, and wanted me to promise I wouldn't use Stacey. Just in case Stacey was ever in the running, which it wasn't.

Forgot to add, I told my grandmother that Brenda and Patricia are definitely not in vogue and that I've met lots of Lilys, Florences, Ivys and Elsies. She screwed up her nose in disgust and declared them to be crusty old lady names, she was convinced that Florence and Elsie would be bullied at school. Grin

My grandmother suggested Brenda and Patricia for my niece. Funnily enough, my sister wasn't keen on either of them.

Also hubby suggested Horatio, Ignatious and Pepe... Luckily we have just found out we're having a girl and have actually agreed on a name we both love which is less 'out there'

I know two sets of American brothers who are Graham and Ian, and none of the four are over 12.
Also one Mack with a 'Mc' surname.

I nearly got named 'fuscia' and would have been named 'bathen' if i was a boy...i think i escaped lightly!

I actually really love MIL's first name and considered it for DD. But we chickened out because my own mum would have gone beserk at MIL getting that accolade (even though it would only have been because we liked the name... :(

Pamela, not that I've got anything against the actual name, she suggested we use it because it's HER (mil's) name.
No, I will not name my child after or for you thanks.
