Boys names are impossible!

We have aaaaaages to decide, but I wanted some input early as I think DP and I are going to struggle to agree on boys names as we don't seem to like any!

Here are the constraints:

Nothing too....(the word that's banned here), e.g. Jayden/Kayden/Kai
I don't like Callum/Connor names
No surnames - Parker, Fletcher etc
Nothing overly biblical, e.g. Ezekiel
Preferably not top 50, so not Noah, Oliver, Jack
Can't end in a 'ree' sound. I love Henry but baby's surname will be Reed and I think the 'ree-ree' sound in the middle is odd
More than one syllable to work with surname
Nothing too Scottish/Welsh/Irish as we don't have connections there

To give you an idea of what I do like, my absolute favourite is Wilbur. I know it's been slated on here so many times before, but I love it. Have yet to convince DP though... We both like Edwin shortened to Ned, but I'm worried this is becoming too popular.

Are there any names that fit those criteria?

Clueing4looks · 01/03/2015 13:11

Albert (alby, Bertie).

Either THaddeus

Or TADdeaus

Both work well, prefer THaddeus. Could shorten to THaddy, THad or TAD

Following as I'm due next Friday and still have no boys names. Help.

Eminybob · 01/03/2015 12:39

What about William if you like Wilbur but your DH doesn't?

I have a William and often call him Wilbur (and Wilberforce) for fun.

I was going to suggest Leon, but if Leonard is out

if in doubt, go Latinate

Marcus?

Cassius?

Marius?

SimplySara · 01/03/2015 12:18

Working from the name Wilbur that you cited as a name you like, what about Willard? I think it has a beautiful sound to it especially with your last name.

gallicgirl · 01/03/2015 12:14

I feel your pain Hetty.

DP and I are really struggling to find that perfect name. We have a few boy's names but none set us alight, if you know what I mean.

HettyB · 01/03/2015 12:06

I think with the baby's surname we need something a little more unusual. To me Philip Reed and Peter Reed sound a bit...boring. Or like department stores!

I like the names themselves, but not with the surname.

What about Philip

HettyB · 01/03/2015 12:00

I like Robin but that's another one that DP has vetoed here! Why are boys names so hard? We have two girls names we both love but are really struggling with boys!

KatoPotato · 01/03/2015 11:54

Joining this thread! Currently 29weeks and at an impasse with DH. We already have a Robin (5) and I want Toby but DH has vetoed!

He likes Scot?!

HettyB · 01/03/2015 11:30

Yep, DP hates Leonard.

ScaryChicken · 01/03/2015 11:25

How about Peter?

HettyB · 01/03/2015 11:20

Suz would you pronounce Jonas with a hard J or soft like Yo-nus? I quite like it (which means DP won't)

HettyB · 01/03/2015 11:19

Ooh, I'm inexplicably drawn to Leonard. Cue DP coming home and telling me it's awful.

There are some other great names in there but they've been discounted for some reason - DP doesn't like them, we know a baby with the same name, etc.

Hmm, how about Jonas? I love Elliott by the way and don't think you should let a portaloo put you off.

Hakluyt · 01/03/2015 10:29

Patrick.

HettyB · 01/03/2015 10:28

I like Seth and Jude but think they're too short with the surname.

Toby and Theo are too popular, don't like Daniel/Nathaniel/Samuel, l like Joseph but a friend just used it for her son.

I like Hugo, Amos and Francis but DP doesn't, and I like Otto but there's one in the extended family and I wonder if that's a bit close for an unusual name.

Elliott is on our shortlist but I'm currently being put off it as the people over the road are having a loft conversion and the view from our front window is a portaloo with Elliott emblazoned on it!

How do you pronounce Thaddeus, padkin? Is it a hard T - TAD-ee-us, THAD-ee-us, Tad-AY-us like Amadeus or something else?
