What girls' names are you hearing most now?

Interested in the "boy" version of this below, so thought I'd see what the unofficial "on-trend" names are for girls at the moment?

So, to repeat the question the previous OP wrote: What baby girl names are you hearing of lots now in your circles/on TV etc rather than what's "officially" in the top ten?

I'm struck by how few Olivias and Amelias I have met even though they are supposedly the top 2

But I have met loads of: Evie; Ellie/Ella; Poppy; Sophia (LOADS of these!) and, rather unexpectedly, quite a few named Elise recently!

These are both locally and amongst friends around the country. I know at least 3 of each under 5. I have yet to meet an Eva/Eve/Evie/Ava

And Lily and May/Mae/Mai

VikingLady · 28/02/2015 13:59

Isla. At one rhymetime session recently there were three Islas and one Ella out of 12 kids total!

amy0787 · 28/02/2015 13:55

Eva, Evie, lily, Mia, Amelia, Charlotte or Lottie all very popular here. I know what you mean though, I like Ava but would be put off by popularity, despite the fact I've never met one.

fionadal · 28/02/2015 13:54

Thanks everyone. Interesting reading!

Yes to OP above- Elise. NOT Elsie/Elsa (tho' know a few of them too). There are two in one class at my son's pre-school, and another just born to a friend. They're probably the only three in the UK though - sorry, 4 as someone above said she had an Elise. Funny how names cluster.

Amazed that Cara, Aoife and Astrid are so common in wigglesrock's post. I have met one each of these but would have never have imagined them to be very popular- nice though they are!

In DD1's class the only duplicate girls name is Eve. In DD2's there are two Isobels and one Isobella. In DS' nursery there are three Ella's.

Nightstar · 28/02/2015 00:26
  1. Florence
  2. Evie
  3. Poppy
  4. Bella

I am tripping over these girls in the 3 year old age group. I met three girls called Poppy just at the park yesterday and my son has two of them in his class of only 12 pupils. We will be avoiding these names!

JoanJettPack · 27/02/2015 22:59

Lily
Olivia

Anaffaquine · 27/02/2015 22:50

All the names mentioned are by others are very popular here. Dd2 was nearly Lucy but 3 were born to friends in the months before her arrival.
Most popular at moment seems to be Niamh (various spelling) think it will be this generations Lindsay!

and how could I forgot Amelia among children 2-3yr olds; I know 7!!!

rockinrobintweet · 27/02/2015 22:19

i love this kind of post- when I was pregnant Isla was absolutely what we would call a girl and then i came on here and was turned off. interestingly however i called my daughter Scarlett and on occasion strangers have said they know of more than one. I am yet to come across another and it hasn't been on here. im not even sure if it's inside the top 20?

I know a silly amount of Evie's, with a few Eve's and many many Ava-Rose's. my Nanna is Rose and I wanted to use this name but was turned off by popularity!

Also know of many Imogen's, Phoebe's, Eliza's, Millie's and Ellie type names.

In older generations (7-8yr year olds as opposed to babies) I know lots of Brooke's and Holly's.

loislines · 27/02/2015 22:08

Isobel / Isabel / Isabella
Sophie
Ava / Eva
Emily
