I think 'isn't that an animated film character?' And it probably isn't.
That's Coraline.
(And I don't associate Cora with anything particularly.)

StayGoldPonyBoy · 22/02/2015 01:03

The only Cora I know is a YouTube person and makeup artist. She is very coolGrin look up Vintage or Tacky.

I like the name, prefer Corinne thought.

Blahia · 22/02/2015 01:01

Don't watch Downton OR EastEnders, I think 'isn't that an animated film character?' And it probably isn't. I think it's a good name, not one I would use, but not because there is anything wrong with it... It's quite cute!

InQuiteAPickle · 21/02/2015 23:14

It always makes me think of the beautiful little girl in Titanic. Lovely name.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 21/02/2015 23:12

No I think about Cora off EE. Nice pretty name though, are you considering it.

mathanxiety · 21/02/2015 21:58

And yy to 'cor missus'

mathanxiety · 21/02/2015 21:57

I think of solidly-built Irish women of a certain age, dressed in late 70s and early 80s fashions for stout women, hairdos to match, and always slips under their skirts. I had several teachers of that name, one of whom taught Home Ec, and it is her image that makes the name seem really out of place in Downton Abbey.

Evil grandmother from 'Flowers in the Attic.

How funny tumble, I think of Cora Wintle, the aunt from Dancing Shoes by Noel Streatfield! She must have thought Cora was a good Aunts name!

tinytops · 20/02/2015 07:12

Think will need to watch Eastenders before short listing...
The other thing it sometimes makes me think of is an old cockney man going "Corrrr"

Loved the name, ever since I heard it in titanic. She was the little girl who jack dances with.

The battle axe in eastenders put me off along with associations with downton abbey and ringer. All the characters by that name do seen to be vile.

Plus the fact it was vetoed by dh

Canyouforgiveher · 19/02/2015 23:00

I think of Lady Cora (Glencora) in the Palliser novels who is an interesting woman.

itssangriaoclock · 19/02/2015 22:55

Loved the name since titanic she was the little girl that jack danced with.

Then they introduced it in eastenders, downton abbey, Ringer etc it put me off also was immediately vetoed my dh. Shame though as a cute name

Funghoul · 19/02/2015 22:38

I have a Cora, was suggested by a family friend who had an aunt with the name. It's not common where we live, so dd has a name which is different but still a proper name iyswim. Never watched either program but I'd rather the downton association!

tumbletumble · 19/02/2015 22:31

I think of Aunt Cora in The Painted Garden by Noel Streatfield. That's the only Cora I can think of (don't watch Downton). I think it's a pretty name.

flowerbum · 19/02/2015 22:27

I think it's. Lovely, I think of last of the mohicans.

SamanthaandSamaris · 19/02/2015 21:15

Didactylos I think of the Saki short story too! (though I couldn't remember the title of it).

GingerLDN · 19/02/2015 20:52

The little girl in Titanic, love it

Rhubarbgarden · 19/02/2015 20:51

Downton, yes.

ashesandfire · 19/02/2015 19:21

I also think of Last of the Mohicans! I don't watch Eastenders or Downton. Lovely name

Cornberry · 19/02/2015 17:24

Why is Cora in Downton awful?!

pilates · 19/02/2015 15:58

I think of the horrible old bag on Eastenders.

GiniCooper · 19/02/2015 15:51

I don't watch any of those programmes so wouldn't associate with any of them.
I do know a Cora who is judgemental, whiney, nosey and generally just bloody rude so that would turn me off the name. Sorry.
