Really not keen on Paloma.
All I hear is Faith and that makes it seem so 'of the moment'.
I like Francesca Freya and Abigail, Sophie is too overused and I don't like Imogen.
I would pick Abigail.

Paloma is the Spanish word for 'Dove', so its not about horses. I've always
liked Imogen. The other names are all quite nice, but Sophie is too popular
On the other hand, it is a classic name, so may not go out of fashion for a long time

Abigail is DD's middle name so I'm biased. It always gets shit on here.

Freya and Imogen are great.

Sophia is nice as an alternative to Sophie?
Freya, Imogen, Sophie all currently very popular in KS1 (I work in a school) I think theres more than 2 in each class of each name!
Paloma is lovely and that little bit more unique.
Francesca was our girl name - 3rd child was an unexpected boy!!! I vote Francesca or Paloma

Abigail was the name for a servant so I wouldn't pick it.
Sophie = nice but dull
Freya= too common
Francesca = cool

Like them all apart from Abigail (but like Abby) and Paloma. Would say Freya is my favourite and definitely not a popular name where I am.

I only know adult Sophies. I like all those except Abigail which for some reason I have always loathed, sorry!

No, I wouldn't nightstar. I'm not a huge fan of NN's so the intention would be to use all of the names on our list in full. The only exception may be Fran/Francesca.

OP would you be bothered by people thinking/asking that you'd chosen the name because of Paloma Faith? And would you be thinking of using the full name the whole time?

I think Francesca is very pretty, actually they are all quite pretty, except maybe Abigail, just personal preference though, nothing wrong with it.

The only one I would avoid is Sophie, as it crested the top ten several times last year and the year before. But again, it's just me - I wouldnt want a name that was the most popular in the country (ie overused!)

If you don't know anyone with Freya then I'd put that at the top of my list (unfortunately I know several).

I like more unusual names, DH doesn't. So these are the names we can agree on, I like them all they just don't excite me, IYKWIM.

I really hope I can get him to see the light with Paloma but I doubt it...

I really like Paloma. It's a bit different. All of the others seem quite ordinary/dull in comparison. Sophie is pretty dull and ubiquitous and I agree, Abigail is my least favourite.

I like slightly more unusual names though. There's nothing wrong or offensive about any of the other names. They're just normal, well used, classic names. I don't hear them and think "oooooh", just "oh".

It's interesting (though not surprising) that Paloma seems to be a bit of a marmite name. Jackie I don't really agree with all the 'only name your child that if you can claim the heritage' seems a bit ridiculous to me.

I think people are thinking of horses because you get a Palomino horse. I like Paloma, Francesca - like Frankie and Cesca as nn's. Not so much the others. Think Abigail would get Abby or Abs.

Sophie so many atm but it's a nice name, slightly prefer Sophia
Abigail really like this but there's lots of Abi/Abbie/Abby names in the top list so she could be one of many without you realising it, also I think it used to mean 'maid'
Imogen fine solid
Paloma only if you're italian

You have quite similar taste to me, I really like all your names although less keen on Paloma.
My name is Imogen and I love it.
Francesca - lovely, I like the nicknames Cesca/Chess and Frankie
Freya - I love this, it would be on my list for a future dd
Sophie - also love this, everyone says it's popular but in my experience Sophia is more so. Sophie is fun and a bit cheeky!
Abigail - I like it but I don't like nn Gail and I have taught loads of horrible Abis! I think it's a bit dated

Yes, I just like to canvass opinions. I liked Tallulah until I read a few threads on here and I thought, actually I agree with the posters.

As I said upthread, I hate the NN Frankie so that shortening wouldn't come from me, I much prefer Fran if there were to be any NN.

Sophie is my favourite from your list, classy, feminine, and a name that stands the age test. Athough it's supposed to be over used I only know 2. Not so keen on the others, Freya sounds tatty, but I admit that's just me, paloma sounds horsey and I can imagine lots of old ladies saying "what did you say her name is.. ? Pamela. ..?", and I am just not keen on francesca because I think the shortening frankincense sounds a bit harsh. Pick the one you like though, nobody else's opinion really matters.Smile
