Eve and Ava just too similar?

AllTerrainMammy · 10/02/2015 16:17

I think I already know the answer to this question but I just wanted to hear what others thought. We already have a DD (almost 4, named Eve) and are due to have another DC within the next few weeks. We have boys names picked out no problem but are struggling to agree on a girls name.

When pregnant with DD I adored the name Ava but DH was never really sure so it got forgotten about. This time round he's decided he really likes it and it's still very high on my list of favourites but is it just too similar to Eve?

Also on the 'possibles' list are:

Cara
Flora
Emily
Fern
Rosa

Probably all with the middle name Grace

But none of these I absolutely love! My other favourites which have been completely ruled out by DH are Ayla and Seren.

Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I think Emmy. Its a lovely name in its own right. Its a nn for Emmeline as well, or so I believe

AllTerrainMammy · 16/02/2015 16:27

I think I have my answer and its a definite no for Eve and Ava. I think my favourite it still Emily but definitely with the nickname Emmy. Just out of curiosity (and changing the theme of the thread!) how would you spell Emmy. With a Y or an ie? I've only met one other little one and it was her actual name rather than a nickname and I've not seen it written down.

Rosa, Cara and Flora all still in the running. Thanks for the other suggestions too. Sadly DH doesn't like Amelie of Florence, I will mention Orlaith to him though as I don't think we're discussed that one!

Its like calling two sisters Jean and Joan!

SwedishEdith · 15/02/2015 16:51

What about Cora? Combines Cara and Flora.

sleepybee · 15/02/2015 14:49

I know an Eve with a sister Isla

Tuesday11 · 15/02/2015 13:19

What about Ada as an alternative?

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 14/02/2015 20:14

What about Florrie as a nn for Florence if you decide against Flora (which I love btw and Flora McDonald had it first!). Or Fay?

ExpectTheVeryUnexpected · 14/02/2015 20:11

I think if you went with Ava-Grace or Ava Grace as the first name you could get away with Eve and Ava. But otherwise too similar. Eve an Flora go well and flora is a gorgeous name.

SarahB1083 · 12/02/2015 23:04

Too similar although Eve and Rosa are beautiful together x

NadiaWadia · 12/02/2015 15:49

Eve and Ava are 2 versions of the same name really.

Rosa and Emily are beautiful, Flora and Cara are very nice. Not that keen on Fern.

Jackieharris · 12/02/2015 12:38

Cara lovely
Flora lovely too but it's a brand - spreads well isn't a nn anyone would want
Emily v popular, I can see why, reminds me of friends character
Fern nice, strong, maybe a little harsh, prefer Freya, a few celebs
Rosa nice if a bit boring

Ava if you really want it go for it, they won't be kids forever. I've heard of siblings with more similar names. It is very trendy though.

ScaryChicken · 12/02/2015 11:06

Emmie is nice.

Would you consider Flory? I know a Romanian lady called this and think it's lovely.

HearTheThunderRoar · 12/02/2015 10:14

Far to similar, Fern and Cara from your list are lovely.

grocklebox · 12/02/2015 10:06

I know sisters called Mary and Marie, its almost as bad.

londonkiwi · 12/02/2015 09:43

Yes too similar.

Love Rosa (also like Flora but like you I think of the margarine).
Like Cara, Emily and Emmy.

isthisjustfantasy · 10/02/2015 22:10

I know twins called Macie and Mason. Also siblings Ella and Leah.

DramaAlpaca · 10/02/2015 21:37

Agree with everyone else about Eve & Ava.

I think Emmie for Emily is very cute.

Also like Rosa & Cara from your list.

RabbitSaysWoof · 10/02/2015 21:33

Amelie Grace
Orlaith Grace

ouryve · 10/02/2015 21:26

Well, I know of someone who called their twin boys Mark and Marcus, which raised an awful lot of eyebrows.

EnglishExpatUSA · 10/02/2015 21:23

I don't think the similarity is an issue (I know twins Eva and Ava which I think is cute). I just don't think the world needs ANOTHER Ava at this point!

Surf25 · 10/02/2015 20:51

Definitely too similar. I do feel your pain as one of my fav names for dc3 is too alike dd2s name. It can be tricky!! But as someone else wisely said, we have known europeans called eva pronounced ava so that immediately makes it extra confusing!

Eva and Emily is lovely. Love the name Emmy/Emmie. Of course that could be a nn for Emily

AllTerrainMammy · 10/02/2015 20:18

Thought so, just needed it confirmed, thanks all! Flora seems a popular choice - it was DH's suggestion and whilst I do like it, I can't help but think of the margarine whenever I hear it! Won't rule it out just yet though. Pinkje, I've never seen Last Tango in Halifax so we didn't get our inspiration for Flora Grace from there!

Any other suggestions would be gratefully received? What are your opinions on Emmie, possibly as a nn for Emily?

I think they are too similar. I like Rosa.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 10/02/2015 17:22

Yes too similar.

Like Cara and Flora.

wildernessagogo · 10/02/2015 17:22

Yes - too similar. I knew twins called Evie and Ivy at school. Now THAT'S similar!
