I love this name but DH says he hates it...keen to get other's opinions. I think it is so pretty but DH says it makes him think of otters?!!

Ottilie = originally a German name, and pronounced Ot-tee-lee-yuh.

Now sometimes pronounced different ways in different countries, but I much prefer the original pronounciation.

It sounds like someone with an accent saying utterly. I don't like it but then I don't really like names beginning with O

I like it. What's wrong with otters? I think otters have a very similar cute/scary/awesome ratio to cats.

I've always been confused about the pron too. Is it OH-Tilly or OTT-ily or...what?

I actually just find it a bit confusing and weird.

I imagine that every mumsnet daughter would be called this if inly it weren't for all those prospective fathers vetoing it.
I don't like it much. I think it's cute, but I don't think it sounds like an afult's name.

I never know how to pronounce it, is it OTT-il-ee or oh-TILL-ee or oh-til-EE? If it's the first one then it reminds me of otters as well.

I love this too , but whenever I ask anyone their opinion they usually say it makes them think of Utterly Butterly and others say its a middle class French name- both have put me off a bit .I would definitely still consider it though as it's really pretty and unusual . I like it best when spelt Ottolie .i guess you could have Lottie as a nn too Smile

Love this name it's pretty, feminine, sophisticated and classy all in one. Very versatile and not very common either.
What's not to love?!

Pretty? Not to my eye...maybe if you're a fan of Tilly, which I'm not.

I love it and think it is open to nicknames which is always important as it gives the child/future adult a chance to find something they like (Tillie, Ottie, Lillie)
