I like it, pronounced Ott-EE-lea-eh.

squoosh · 09/02/2015 10:52

Will sound rubbish in a UK accent.

HollyBen · 09/02/2015 10:30

I like it. It was on my list for DC #2. Vetoed by DH Sad

LollyLondon · 09/02/2015 10:27

Pretty name, I like it

MrsMarigold · 09/02/2015 10:19

A bit precious but good when shortened to Lottie

aphrodites · 09/02/2015 10:16

I think it's lovely, LO goes to nursery with a girl who has this name.

afghanda · 09/02/2015 07:24

Really dislike it. I can't hear it without thinking of a) the word utterly, b) otters and c) it sounds like a place name.

The German pronunciation (Uh-till-y-a) is better, and the French pronunciation (o-TEEL-ee) is nicer, but I hate the English pronunciation.

wildstrawberryplace · 08/02/2015 21:38

There was an Ottilie in DS1's nursery class. The staff called her Ottilie Bottilie. I still like it though. It's pretty but not girly-bland.

Finchleemum · 08/02/2015 21:28

I think it is very classy. I have never wondered about the pronunciation.

ag123 · 08/02/2015 20:57

Hmm not sure about Ottoline, think it makes it sound less pretty...

NoArmaniNoPunani · 08/02/2015 20:43

I love it. DH has vetoed it.

ChocolatePecanPie · 08/02/2015 20:42

Otto-line

We have an Ottilie. We pronounce it Oh-Till--ee. She generally goes by Ottie or Ots at the moment.

Only thing we don't like is when people drop t's. Then it sounds awful.

CPtart · 08/02/2015 20:40

Dislike it.
Yet another ie ending name, far too many of those of both genders, Ellie, Millie, Charlie, Freddie, Alfie, etc etc. Sounds like an abbreviation.

ag123 · 08/02/2015 20:38

How would you pronounce Ottoline?

OP posts:
kavv0809 · 08/02/2015 20:19

It's ok. Prefer Elodie or Ettalie maybe one of those might get past DH?

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 08/02/2015 20:13

Don't like it at all.

okeydonkey · 08/02/2015 20:02

I like it!

mrsmootoo · 08/02/2015 19:42

It's slightly odd. Sounds like it's already been shortened. What about Ottoline?

StoneFoxMama · 08/02/2015 08:46

Chill out reuset!

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/02/2015 23:17

I prefer the German pronunciation but suspect you'd have the Devils own job getting people to accept in the UK as the French pronunciation is the route by which the name has become known here.

AnnieMorel · 07/02/2015 17:25

I like it and it was on our list 12 years ago.

I know 2 - one is 3 and one 7. Both pronounced Ot-il-y.

reuset · 07/02/2015 17:23

All very well. But in the UK it's not pronounced that way. It's Ott -il -ee.

I could go onto many threads and wax lyrical about the pronunciation being better from country of origin, but (with the exception being the mangling and part anglicization of clementine which is a bugbear of mine) why bother.

StoneFoxMama · 07/02/2015 17:16

I'm with flora the German pronunciation is beautiful, sounds a bit like Otteelya to rhyme with Ophelia (or the one I know is pronounced like this) I have heard the other ways but prefer this way.

Seriouslyffs · 07/02/2015 14:55

No it's lovely. I mooted it here yesterday as an 'alternative to but similar' for Orianna.

invisiblecrown · 07/02/2015 14:51

It is so awful.
