Old fashioned English boys names

I have a Billy, a Stanley and an Albert.

If this next one is a boy, I have no idea what to call him!

I like Eric and I like Arthur, but my main criteria is that the name can be shortened nicely, and neither of those can.

Ideas?

I have a Leonard (Lenny / Len ) and would have had a Gilbert (Gil) if my DD had been a boy. Also love Lawrence, Edgar, Roland, Walter and Edmund. The ONS has a list of top 100 historic baby names from 1900 onwards - you could look through those for inspiration

One of my boys is Christopher always known as Kit, as in Kit Marlow. It's very old English and I love it! Smile

Ronnie is such a great name! Id deffo have it for my next one if my DS wasn't called Reggie haha
I adore the name Graham! But wouldn't know how to shorten it :/
Beatrice and Gwen are my fave girls names.
I vote Ted and Fred :)

I have a Frederick and Stanley. Love Albert, but DH wasn't keen. If I had another boy, he'd be Arthur or Francis (Frank).

SnowwyJane has just reminded me that someone I know is also expecting a baby boy and is naming him Ronnie! Not an often heard of name in this generation.
Also a girl my age (22) is naming her little boy Percy.
A lot of the older names coming back around which is nice!

2 of my favourites for my baby boy so far are Freddie (top favourite) and Theo. Although for me I don't particular like the full names - Frederick and Theodore, so I would just use the shortened names. I also like Frankie but I have a relative with a little Frankie so it's out of the question really x

I no i am biased but my son is called Reggie and i love it!
Obvs i cant have a Ronnie with that...
But we love Ted, Freddie, Dougie and Rudy as well

I knew an Edward/Ted and he was very cool. Arthur is on my list but an worried it's very popular now. Really like Franklin/Frank too.

Yeah I'm quite taken by Teddy. I had written off Edward or Edmund because we have an Eddie in the family already- but I'd never thought of Ted/Teddy

Teddy goes fantastically with your other boys names.

As does Frank. But I'm biased on that score Grin .

Arthur is great but too similar to Albert for me.
