I love the German pronouncitation of Dorothea more than English tbh. In German it's 'more like 'doro-teya'

bienemaya · 04/02/2015 15:05

I really like it!

KittyMcVitie · 04/02/2015 14:41

My great aunt was called Dorothy. She hated it from very young and was know her whole life by a completely different name. I also know a Dorothea who is in her 70s. She also hates her name!

howvembarrassing · 03/02/2015 20:01

Oh, and Dolores. And Dinah.

howvembarrassing · 03/02/2015 20:01

Other names I like:

Shirley
Margot
Sylvie
Ivy
Ismene
Ida

weeblueberry · 03/02/2015 16:41

I LOVE Dorothy and Dotty.

amy83firsttimer · 03/02/2015 16:21

Love it.
My beloved morris minor was called Dorothy before I had to sell her to buy a boring grown up car cos of stupid DS and car seats etc.

Anyway, great name.

TheWiseOldElf · 03/02/2015 16:14

Also, mine is known as Dotty or Dots which seems to meet with fairly universal approval but I have had people pull faces when I tell them her full name is Dorothy so it's clearly not to everyone's taste!

TheWiseOldElf · 03/02/2015 16:12

My Dorothy was nearly Penelope. My thread asking for opinions is here.

redredholly · 03/02/2015 15:07

Hm art and co we have very similar taste!

I adore Dorothy. If I have another daughter, she will be a Dorothy.

Sophiesmummie · 03/02/2015 12:47

I like Dorothy. Agree it's a classic that's due a revival.

DeanKoontz · 03/02/2015 12:45

I quite like Dozzer Grin

Thisvehicleisreversing · 03/02/2015 11:13

My mum's cat is called Dorothy. She gets called Dozzer.

Your DD might get called Dozzer too, don't do it.

MessyHair9 · 03/02/2015 11:10

Ugly

RL20 · 03/02/2015 11:02

My nan was Doris.. She was always called Dot though. If I was having a girl she was going to be Dolly.
So Dorothy could be Dot, Dotty, or Dolly! I like it.

FixItUpChappie · 03/02/2015 04:47

Hideous. You asked.

Nolim · 03/02/2015 04:35

I dont like it too much

thecaroline · 03/02/2015 04:07

*if pronounced correctly, sorry.

thecaroline · 03/02/2015 04:06

Everyone around here says DOR-thee and that makes the name hideous to me. With pronounced correctly I think it's ok. It's certainly not a graceful name, but it has spunk.

TurboTheChicken · 02/02/2015 20:31

Totally biased but it's a beautiful name.

Rhubarbgarden · 02/02/2015 20:29

I like it. There are two Dots in dd's reception class.
