Ramona - fab or clunky?

Opinions on this name please. Fabulously unusual or rare for a reason? I don't know of any but I've seen it come up on here a few times and am strangely drawn to it.
If you have a Ramona what reaction do you get to her name?
Thanks!

To me it's Ramona Quimby. So fab name.

TheyLearnedFromBrian · 03/02/2015 12:03

Lovely, but no good nicknames. Think about it - Ram, Mona? Urgh.

That's why this lovely name is not more popular!

PurpleStripedSock · 03/02/2015 09:45

I work with a grown up Romana. She wasn't named after the Doctor Who companion. It's a Czech name apparently (she is Czech).

RabidFairy · 02/02/2015 20:42

Someone I know has a daughter called Romana (after the Doctor Who companion). That gets shortened to Mana, which is nicer than the short form Mona IMO.

MumSnotBU · 02/02/2015 20:39

The au pair in Cold Feet was called Ramona, if anyone else is old enough to remember that series..Wink

JollyFrog · 02/02/2015 20:37

I love it!

The girl who plays Karen on BBC1's outnumbered is called Ramona

It's very classy IMO

Snog · 02/02/2015 20:30

Love it

PrimalLass · 02/02/2015 19:22

Fab.

MeggleVache · 02/02/2015 19:18

Gorgeous!!!!!! Times ten!

VixxFace · 02/02/2015 19:09

Really bad.

Sophronia · 02/02/2015 19:06

I like it. I also like the similar Romina.

marshmallowpies · 02/02/2015 17:12

I love love love it too, I remembered the Ramona Quimby books fondly but when we were choosing DD1's name I was also inspired by Ramona Flowers, the character from Scott Pilgrim vs the World.

I really tried to sway DH but he changed his mind about Ramona and vetoed it in the end. We went with Miranda instead, which has a similar sound/syllables, and which we both still like, luckily. Still have a soft spot for Ramona though.

NorbertDentressangle · 02/02/2015 17:08

I like it.

The only one I can think of is the actress that plays the daughter on Outnumbered.

The only drawback is the "moaner" nickname

BlueberryWafer · 02/02/2015 17:04

I quite like it actually, and normally don't like more unusual names,

MateySkatey · 02/02/2015 17:03

I agree about it becoming popular. I know of a few in the last 18 months or so.

I like it but it's not unusual now.

HesterShaw · 02/02/2015 17:01

Probably because of the Ramones!

CitronVert · 02/02/2015 16:35

I love it. To me it's got a real rock chick vibe - very cool (although I realise the word 'cool' is probably very uncool).

FunkyPeacock · 02/02/2015 16:19

I like it

I can't help thinking about the fabulous Spanish nanny on Cold Feet though!

PurpleStripedSock · 02/02/2015 16:19

I secretly love this name but wouldn't use it for my own child. She was the star of some rather fab children's books when I was a younging. Ramona Quimby and her little sister Beezus :-)

Go for it so I can live vicariously through you!

tinkerbelletigger · 02/02/2015 16:16

Bob Dylan song called Ramona. I like it.

PeppermintCrayon · 02/02/2015 16:12

Love it but really dislike all possible nicknames.

Bicnod · 02/02/2015 16:06

Love it. Loved the Ramona Quimby books.

Scotslasslivinginfrance · 02/02/2015 16:03

Ramona is clunky but in a fab cool way!

IsadoraQuagmire · 02/02/2015 16:00

My mom often says to me "I should have called you Mona" she means this as a cruel insult! Grin

BlueStarsAtNight · 02/02/2015 15:55

I really like it, and am almost considering putting on my short list, except I think the 'moaner' thing will put me off in the end
