Did you know this was pronounced Emmy?

I always assumed it was pronounced em - but heard jlo talking about her daughter and it's Emmy.

Actually I pronounce the first and last 'e' excactly the same, so Eh-m-eh. Like Emmeline.

If you want it pronounced Emmy, then I'd spell it like that or Emmie.

I would have though it was Emm-ay (like Esmé) although as it is an e and not an é I can see why that's incorrect.

Where I am from it is most definitely "Emm-eh"

Elle is "Ell".

I would assume that Emme was pronounced like the letter 'M'. Similarly to Bette (bet) and Elle ('L'). Never met one though.

Isadora, Bette is a French name pronounced 'bet'. Bette Davis was the one with the non-standard pronunciation - she changed the spelling from 'Betty' for her stage name (she was actually Elizabeth).

Yes emme = Emmy.
I think it should have a revival a name I had forgotten about but I had a great aunt with that name and she was fab Grin

There was an Emme at my DD's nursery. I think her mother was German. It was pronounced Emmy.

Emma = Emm-ah
Emme = Emm-eh
Emmi = Emm-ih

That's what I would say.

I know an Emmeline (Emm-eh-leen), and it is shortened to Emme (Emmy).

Two examples, from Italy and Finland here: www.forvo.com/word/emme/ Both approx 'EMM-eh', rather than Emm-ee.

I'd pronounce Emme as Emmy. But I'd pronounce Elle as Ell not Elly.
(Emme's like Bette which should be pronounced Betty, like Bette Davis did not Bet like Bette Midler does - I read that her mother thought it should be pronounced Bet, so that's what they always called her)

How weird, I'd have put money on it being pronounced Em.

Mind you I'm also certain that Elle is 'El' and not Ellie.

Traditionally would be nn for Emma or emmeline.

But now used as a name. (Em-ee)

It's a fairly popular name in our area, know at least three

I know one pronounced Emmie - not massively keen personally on the name or the spelling, but would say Emmie or Emmy would be preferable.
