My grandmother's middle name was Elena pronounced Eh-lay-na.

OP I think most people will assume it's spelled Elena which will be an unnecessary headache. Any particular reason you want to spell it that way?

Yes Sunshine, it's Pronounced Alaina. It's not made up

I knew a lovely Aleyna growing up. Her name was never shortened.

The only Elena I know is Spanish and she pronounces it 'a-lay-na'. Not saying Aleyna is made-up just that it will be a headache in that no one will assume that's how it's spelt.

It's a really popular Romanian name but usually spelt Alina. My dd is Adelina which is a slight variation on it.

I don't mind that it looks made up. My name and that of older girls are all made up although spelt phonetically correct

Why not use elena?

I get it if u love aly as a nn btw. I loved alley mcbeal. But not mad keen on Alison.

I love Ally. I know too many Elly's. My preference is Arabella but I can't get agreement on this :(. 3 girls and I have not been able to use this name.
