Honest opinions on Rupert please. If you have one, please let me know your experiences.

I absolutely love it, I think it is traditional, handsome, soft but strong, known but not too unusual. BUT...I know it has connotations and I'd hate to give my son a name that will cause him problems down the track. What do you think?

Love it :) you can't dismiss na,es becaue they sound posh. That's very silly. What about George and Charles and Elizabeth? I think it's traditional and lovely.

I love Rupert. One of my closest friends growing up was a Rupert and we certainly weren't posh. He goes my Rupe or Roo the majority of the time, although his GF calls his RooBear which is slightly cringey.

Rupert was on my boys list but DH wouldn't allow it. Sad

I have a Claudia and also love Rupert donthackmenow ds 2 is due in June and ha may well be Rupert or if dp gets his way, sidney

I love it but dh vetoed. If we ever had another child (not going to happen) then if it was a boy I would try for Rupert again! I think I would use Claudia or Louisa for a girl.

The more I say it though, the more I like the sound of it. If you like it use the name. I know some kids with whacky names and rupert is very mild in comparison

I have a Rupert. We are not posh. Only ever had good comments about his name. Known as Roo or Rupes to immediate family.

He is definitely not a wimpy or wet child, he's determined, knows his mind, and has an incredible mischievous streak.

I think almost any name could have negative connotations or associations, and you would be hard pushed to find someone that actually commented to you that they hated your child's name.

Looks like you either love it or hate it! I didn't grow up here so I don't really get the posh/toff/poncy association, as a name itself written down/heard, I think it is lovely. I also don't mind the bear association, most names these days are associated with a children's character.

Hmmmm, still undecided about whether to use it in RL though. Keep the comments coming, would love to hear from a Mum of a Rupert!

It does sound very upper class and toff-ish.
Weirdly, I only know one genuine, upper class Toff and his name is ....Paul. So who knows? [Smile]
